If i'm asian, am i basically screwed?

i was just reading over this post... but i find this sort of insulting

Well guess what? Cujoe169 is not the only one. Clearly there are thousands of other Asians who are also lazy. Why don't you hear about them? Because they fluck out of classes and probably aren't even given a chance to apply, let alone think, of going to college. There are too many brighter kids of their same race.
...

it gives off the connotation that i am flunking out of classes... :(, which i am not*... being lazy is a talent, and to maintain grades alongside that takes more talent... and i'm just being arrogant now so i'll shut up

In 'my' opinion, I feel that someone who comes from a family with a very low income, should have a greater chance over someone with a non-white ethnic background.

diasy (sorry dont remember your username but it was something like that) - on the old board i was rainsparkle, but it wouldnt let me join or login as that on the new board so i had to change it to something close.

Kinglin - why should income be a factor in admissions?

'I' feel that someone who grew up in a family that struggled to provide housing and food, would be more worth while. Honestly, if your family lived in a not so good location, perhaps even the ghetto; Schools awful. Wouldn't you think someone with that kind of backround, saying he/she got a 36 would be more worthwhile taking over an asian who grew up in a average or rich family?

Alright, I'm Asian American. Is there such a thing as underrepped types of Asians? I mean, the Chinese, Korean, and Japanese are ahead of the game in comparison to the Vietnamese, Cambodian, etc.

So yeah, I'm a Vietnamese-American female. Do colleges even look at what your ethnic background is, instead of just race? What about financial background?

My disadvantage: I'm Asian. BUT, my parents only had basic Vietnamese schooling (which is sort of the equivalent of finishing high school). Also, my mother was in the first generation in her family to recieve any schooling. That makes makes me first generation college-bound and first-generation American. We used to be incredibly poor--first living in rural Arkansas then to rundown Los Angeles. Only two years ago were we able to live "comfortably," after moving to Orlando.
I would think my background would outweigh my stereotypical Asian standing.

With thousands of applications floating in, I wonder if adcoms ever consider the tiny details.

At my school, there are a handful of Asians out of 4,000 kids. I think my school represents America nicely; we're extremely diverse, having just about proportional percentages to races in America. However, the Asian kids dominate the top ranks. Go figure. I'm not all "Ooh, Asian Pride!" or anything, but that's just observation.

i feel the same way!
