I had an amnio with both of my children, and I didn't have a miscarriage with either one. Prenatal testing are important for reasons other than deciding to have an abortion or not.

In Palin's case it more than likely prepared her mentally and emotionally for the birth.

One of my dear friends miscarried after an amnio. She had this with her second pregnancy, after losing her first one to a stillbirth.

The interesting thing about dating a pregnancy is that sometimes the doctor or the pregnant mom are slightly off with their dates. I remember with my first one, the doctor dated my pregnancy off by two weeks - which would have made it an immaculate conception.

Not a perfect science, especially if mom has a strange cycle.

As was the case with Palin. She obviously didn't have the test in order to decide whether to abort the fetus in the event that it had a disorder. That is my POINT, PRECISELY. For the millionth time:
~she DIDN'T abort the fetus.
~she risked having a miscarriage (in more ways than one--she had the procedure an estimated 2 weeks early) for the sake of being able to "prepare" for the child IN THE EVENT that it had a disorder--which it did.
~there are other tests available

This is what she flat out said. I am NOT disputing that that is why she had the procedure.

It's funny how the Dems make funny of a women or question about what she did when she was pregnant.

and Palin wants to revoke my right and her daughter's right to have an abortion. I sure as hell am sexist towards her, you've got it! If this were a pro-choice woman, I would NEVER question her on this!

Since you know you never want to have children, and have said you don't want to have children. Go get fixed or tell your boyfriend and have him get a vestectomy.

That way you never ever have to worry about having children you said you don't want.

^^look, you're not going to get out of that one regardless of how much you try.

But since you want to keep going, well here it goes. What if I don't have health insurance? Who's going to pay to get my tubes tied or for my BF to get a vastectomy? I'm NOT entirely sure, but I think it's safe to assume that medicaid won't pay for it.

And FTR, whats with you and telling me what to do?

I went back and looked through all the threads to figure out what the big deal was with these posts.

When you are pregnant, your doctor will often order tests for you based on medical experience, age of mom, risk factors and so on. Amnio or CVS are usually the tests they give moms over a certain age to make sure that baby is fine.

When I was pregnant with first child, and my husband was out of the country, the doctor didn't believe that my husband and I had the same blood type, because I didn't have a copy of his medical records to show the doctor. Instead, I had to take an injection of Rhogam in my 28th week, and then when the baby was born. I didn't need it, but because the doctor didn't want to risk a lawsuit if my baby was born with the problems that typically affect subsequent pregnancies. Doctors are pretty cautious, as a general rule.

Even if baby is not fine, taking the test is giving mom and dad knowledge of how to help the baby later on. Specialists can be made available, and sometimes even surgery on baby can be done before the baby is born in some cases.

You can conjecture all you want. Your argument is slightly ridiculous. Even those who are against abortion aren't against knowledge about the baby's health issues.

It isn't a pro-life or pro-choice situation, in the decision of having an amnio. This is one of the craziest lines of discussion I have heard.

AMom2- Just because you don't agree with ASC's views doesn't mean it's right to make such harsh personal attacks. As a mature and caring adult, I wouldn't expect you to condemn another's hypothetical offspring just because of differences in opinion.

ASC- I understand what you're trying to say... But don't you think you're making a mountain out of a molehill? Really... maybe Palin's actions in regard to her baby weren't 100%... but 99.5% is pretty damn close that I'd give her the benefit of a doubt...

You are not going to have a baby, and have never been pregnant. You really have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to prenatal care. I have had 2 aminos, 2 CVS, several ultrasounds, and many other tests when I was pregnant. My children turned out just fine.

The fact that you can't let this go shows that you are a sexist.
