If school doesn't offer visit/exchange/transient, should I just transfer for a sem?

The school I REALLY wanna go to doesn't offer visiting/exchange program (they do, but my school is not on the equivalent side/on their exchange consortium), should I just take a leave of absent from my current university and then transfer to XX college only for a semester, but then come back to my college? Can I do that?

I love my current college but I really want to go XX college just for the experience. I don't care about getting grades, whatever, but just really for the experience.

I know it doesn't sound financially wise, but this is something I really want/need to do as part of my college experience.

Can I do that? But what would be my consequences? Thanks so much!

If there are a couple if classes you would like to take there, pick up the phone and call and ask how you can arrange to do that. Most places will allow you to register in non-degree status. You probably will not be able live on campus, but you could find an apartment to share in the area.

Thank you happymom!

However, housing is that BIG part of the experience I am seeking for.
Ultimately, will I have to resort to doing this transferring thing as Morehouse, the school I want to go to, is relatively easy to get into but they just don’t have much exchange opportunities unless your school is affiliated with them.

Back in the last century when I was in college, people used to arrange guest/exchange semesters and years on their own. Have you asked Morehouse directly about arranging an exchange independently? It should be possible to do that. You need to come up with a clear rationale for your exchange/guest term(s). Wanting to live in the dorms and have a great HBCU experience is not good enough. You have to come up with an academic reason for this. Find some specific courses that you can’t get at your home university but that you can get at Morehouse.

If you intend to return to your home institution after a semester or a year, make absolutely certain that your grades don’t suffer, and that the coursework you take at Morehouse is transferable. You do not want to find yourself in a situation where you can’t transfer back.

Great!
Yes definitely, I would incorporate the academics that goes with it as the dorm life there ties into the academic that I would be doing esp in the HBCU and in an all-male setting…I guess I would call it a observational “research.”

I have enough credits at my school to take a leave of absent. But I think in the leave of absent bylaws or something like that, that if you can’t be taking other classes at other school if you’re asking to do a leave of absent. But since I won’t be doing it for credit, I should be able to return to my home school anyways with no problems?

Thanks again!!
