If you are a fan of the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon

That’s the first I’ve heard about Sam being gay. All I can say that is I was an actress doing sex scenes with a man I’d be thanking my lucky stars if he was gay. I’d be much more relaxed about the whole thing.

I have read discussions with people wondering if he is gay, but never heard that he was out.

I googled it after reading this and there is nothing.

I think Claire didn’t tell Jaime about Laoghaire because she didn’t want to seem like a jealous tattle tale or something.

Maybe they should have hired Sam to play Lord John Grey instead of Jamie. :)

I like Sam, but I still think Lawrence Fox is far more of a Jamie than he.

Could be.

I am nearing halfway through Drums of Autumn and enjoying it VERY much. It’s nice to see things go well for them, for a little while. I’m sure it won’t last ;)

…and yes, Roger is growing on me as you all said he would.

She really has done a good job in showing Jamie aging emotionally…from the witty young laird to the older Jamie. I’ve been acquainted with the books for 8 years now and have read the series 3 times. However, sometimes I just miss young Jamie and reread Outlander by itself. What you will find after you are done with the series, is at some point you will do a reread and it will be a different experience. Since you know the story, you will relax while reading and catch things you didn’t the first time around. It’s not quite the same as the first time…but alot of fun. They are my comfort books.

^^^^I agree. Sometimes I go back and just read portions of a book. Some of my favorites are the wedding night conversations and the Voyager reunion, as well as a key scene in Drums of Autumn. :)

I just reread most of An Echo in the Bone, preparatory to reading Heart’s Blood. I liked it much more the second time through. I’ve been glued to Heart’s Blood. I cannot believe the time travel conundrum a certain person is in! That is all I will say on that one. :open_mouth:

BTW, for those who thought Claire and Jamie were too sprightly after sleeping on the ground before, they are definitely acknowledging their aches and pains now.

^^^LOL!

I also remember a scene where they were having trouble reading fine print. Isn’t getting old fun? :D

I’m nearing the end of Drums, another couple hundred pages to go. This one has been one of my favorites so far.

I am sure I will read them again. I now own two, DiA and this one, will certainly buy Outlander and maybe the entire series. Still kind of half-library, half-purchased for now.

…and I finished the Fiery Cross last night.

*Possible Spoilers

I must say it was nice to read a book in which they mostly stay put, with minimal hardship, war and other Terrible Things. The native American threads of the story were interesting, Roger, Ian and all that, and I liked seeing the emergence of other time travelers who (I hope) will reappear as we go on.

I continue to enjoy the characters DG creates, they’re never really black and white (except immediate family, I guess). Like Bonnet - thief, rapist, just a horrible dude…and yet polite and “fair” about things, in some ways? Jocasta - always family but still devious.

Looking forward to seeing the MacKenzies come back after just about hanging Roger.

As advertised, lots of diaper changing, but it was OK.

Love to see J&C still so in love, it’s interesting to look back at Outlander and see how far they’ve come.

Part of me is still sad that the 20 years were spent apart. I wish it hadn’t been that long, but because of Brianna, I guess it had to be.

I have the so-far-final 3 books in my possession and after a little break, will resume.

SPOILER

I was pretty upset about that when I read the first chapter of DIA.

Outlander is still my favorite book of the series. The character that took me longest to warm to is Brianna - I found her so annoying at first.

Bri, our little engineer :)

The Roger-Bri storyline is fine, I enjoy reading it, but it’s not nearly as compelling as the Jamie-Claire storyline, to me.

I agree, I am enjoying all the books but Outlander is still my favorite.

I just finished the last book this morning. There are definitely some very significant questions left unanswered, such as how did certain people get from one place/time to another. But I suppose we’ll hear about it in the next book.

Now I’m wondering how she’s going to wrap the whole thing up.

I’m not sure it’s how or “if” - DG seems to be making a concerted effort to get people interested in the 2nd generation.

And she has a monetary reason for that, too! She just signed a $6M contract for book 9. These are her bread and butter books…I’m sure she’s not in any hurry to wrap it up. However, I am…I think her storytelling is going downhill, but that’s just my opinion.

Well…things just got real in Snow and Ashes.

SPOILER

Claire’s kidnapping by the Browns etc…so many close calls, I guess it was sort of time the big “R” happened to her as it has to most every other character. Thought of this ep 8 recap pic “why is Claire angry” right away: http://media.■■■■■■■■■■/8b2624e9bbadd9945bd0e52959533b58/tumblr_inline_nd5x0lsPSE1qb0kxc.jpg</a></p>

Meanwhile Brianna is engineering the heck out of things, matches, piped water, heat, syringes. She went to college “in Boston”, wonder where exactly…

I agree that her storytelling has been going downhill for some time. Too many coincidences to make the plot work.

I don’t think she has much chance of making Brianna and Roger as compelling as Claire and Jamie.
