Looks good. Now I’m trying to remember if we even have STARZ now that we’ve moved and changed providers.

Goodness I am completely addicted. The audio books are fantastic! I am a distance runner and I while away the miles listening to Jamie’s wonderful accent. I am currently on Snow and Ashes. To think of all the hours, I have spent with the Frasiers is mind boggling. But what is even more mind boggling, is the amount of time I WILL spend watching the series on TV. Enjoy.

BUandBC82, thanks for bumping this thread up. My D and I got a sneak peak of that trailer a couple of weeks ago because a neighbor’s son is involved in the production (we were sworn to secrecy–or at least told not to tweet about it until after the official release on the 11th. Not a problem, as I don’t tweet.) Although we felt that the characters didn’t look like we had imagined them, I think we’ll get used to them, and the neighbor’s son and his wife said the chemistry between the actors who play Jamie and Claire is amazing. The scenes shot on location in Scotland are gorgeous!

I am gettting daily pictures from various facebook pages. I am so very excited about it, but so very nervous that they are going to mess up this beloved series. The actors really do seem perfect for it, though I hope they can look older then the series jumps into the future. The love story of middle aged people is one of my favorite aspects of the book.

shyparentalunit - I’m jealous you have an inside connection!

MizzBee - It is a great love story and great historical fiction.

Okay, I cannot believe this somehow got by me. I went to Barnes and Noble today and saw the new book-which apparently has been out for 2 weeks! I googled some reviews and saw lots of 4-4.5 starts out of 5’s. I didn’t read any of them because I don’t want even the hint of a spoiler.

Have any of you already read it?

Nrdsb4 - thanks for bumping this thread up. I paid no attention to it last fall/winter because I was not reading these books. But after my recent hysterectomy (and subsequent hospitalization to due sepsis), while I was recovering, one of my friends stopped by with Outlander. I am about 75% through it. My friend told me there are huge Gabaldon followings, but to be honest, I wasn’t even aware there were books after Outlander. Reading some of the reviews here, though, I’m not sure if I want to read the rest of the series. I’d been going through a big non-fiction and autobiography phase, so it had been a while since I’d paid attention to any fiction out there.

teriwtt, if you are enjoying Outlander, you MUST read through book 4 at least. I loved all of them, but those first four just kept me hanging.

Also, the miniseries based on the first novel, Outlander, begins on August 9 on Starz. I don’t have that on my cable and am going to have to figure out how to watch this somehow.

I enjoy it, but agree with some of the other perspectives that, at times, it almost seems like a Harlequin romance novel. And there’s a very subtle feel of trying to be sadomasochistic at times, which does not appeal to me… at all, in any way.

I did just finish the Call the Midwife book series before starting this one, and do enjoy reading how medical problems were dealt with in other days and times.

^^^I agree that the series does have some annoying elements, but I find the positives outweigh the negatives. Of course, love of fiction is so very subjective. I found the book 50 Shades of Grey to be one of the most STUPID, poorly written pieces of drivel I’ve ever read. I read it because there was so much hype about it, I got curious. My impression was that the author should be embarrassed, not so much for the subject matter as the horrible, juvenile caliber writing.

However, given the HUGE following those books have, I appear to be in the minority, lol.

I never had one moment in my life that I ever wanted to read this book. Am so glad I never lost those hours of my life!

I made the mistake of mentioning that I thought that there was too much sex in the series (I think I called it soft porn) on Gabaldon’s FB thread and got attacked by a whole bunch of other posters. Gabaldon herself came on to defend me, saying that everyone was welcome to their own opinion. It was weird. I’ve found that there are people like me, that read all kinds of books, and than there are people that just read light fiction. And the latter is okay, but you have to realize that no, most books really don’t have detailed description of sex every 20 pages or so.

^^^I have to admit that when I read a book with many sex scenes, I occasionally skip ahead.

Anybody reading the new book and/or watching the Starz series? What do you think?

I saw the Starz episode 1 (for free) and now I wish I had Starz! Honestly a bit too much sex in it for me but the actors are great.
The new book is a lot better than the last one, imo.

I watched the first episode for free and then badgered my husband to add Starz to our cable lineup. haha. I really liked the show and the hour just flew buy during the first three episodes. Like all TV shows and movies that originated in book form, it doesn’t follow the book exactly, but I do think they have don’t a fairly good job of it.

The free one worked. We signed up with a discount offered. Even DH is enjoying it. They announced that they have renewed it for another season. Haven’t gotten the new book yet.

Will it come out on DVD? Or can I watch it on Hulu? DH will not upgrade our cable without more hassle than I want to take on, so what are my alternatives? We don’t have Netflix either.

I would be interested in knowing this too. We don’t have cable at all . . . maybe it will be on iTunes eventually (it doesn’t appear to be now, unless I missed it)?
