If you didn't get into your 1st (or even 2nd) choice...

My sincere message is: Don't Despair!

And here's why. I was moved to post this after viewing some accepted 'home tests' for Cooper Union. Very impressive work, and I freely admit leagues beyond what I was capable of as a senior in high school.

But...

While I was a good (not top-notch) high-school student, and doubtless showed some promise, I did not get into my first-choice college. But! At the good (not great) school I ended up going to, I got a 4.0 average my first year and quickly transferred to a much better school. Then! Performed well there and went to a much better school again for my masters degree.

The point being: you get more than one chance to revise your trajectory. We're not all Cooper-quality when we start out but we can definitely improve--a lot--along the way. HTH!

Absolutely agree. A lot of people have their sights on unreasonably selective schools like Cooper Union only to be heartbroken when they don’t get in. You’ll be surprised at the number of students that comprise the architecture school who had to apply more than once to get in. I even heard of a guy who did it 6 times before he got in. If you want it, you can absolutely work yourself into it!
