If rank is so important, then why did Penn hide it from the published Class of 2013 stats? For Class of 2012, they published the percent admitted from each decile; however the latest stats posted omit this information. Is this because rank is less important? With the increased minority admits, are they admitting more from lower in their classes? I am hoping YES since my test scores are 2150+ but my rank is only top 18% but I am hoping that my essays, interview, plus Legacy ties will get me in. I am thinking that the class rank is mattering less and less to Penn (otherwise why not publish it?)

The regional director of undergraduate admissions came to my school and she told us that the first thing adcoms do is look at your high school transcript. I doubt that class rank is mattering any lesser than it was a couple years ago.

Was this the regional director of undergrad admissions from Penn? If not, from what college? In what general area is your school located?

just because it wasn’t published doesn’t mean it isn’t important. penn doesn’t publish admission rates regarding racial status but i can bet you being a URM gives a huge boost.

Penn said that the very first thing they look at is your transcript. So… class rigor, rank, and grades are obviously gonna show first.

Yep, definitely transcript. Penn classes are going to be harder than what you’re doing in high school, and so they need to ensure you can handle rigor.
