Most scholarships have very clear guidelines in terms of who is considered for their scholarships. Read those.
As far as if your son is qualified? I’m not sure any scholarship, committee (I have served on some) is going to answer that…as the awards go to,the best candidates from the current batch.
So…I wouldn’t ask either of these questions…
What if a special case? Say the scholarship for nmf. What happens if son becomes one next year? Will he be considered then when he is a sophomore?
No. NMF is for those who are Graduating. The PSAT has to be as of the year before graduation (unless a special waiver is processed for a late decision junior graduating).
If the student becomes NMF - which doesn’t happen until after they’ve taken the SAT junior year - they should be considered for NMF scholarships when they apply in their senior year. Most schools have their guidelines for scholarships on their web sites, however in many cases the guidelines are relative. Some schools will clearly say if you have a GPA above x.x and an SAT above xxxx, then you are considered. Other schools it depends on the pool of students you are competing against and there aren’t clear-cut guidelines. They may only look at a certain percentage of top students, so they cutoffs will be different every year based on the strengths of the applying students that year.
Financial aid offices are not likely to explain anything beyond the published guidelines for a scholarship. They’re not going to tell you exactly why - or why not - a particular student received a particular award. Just like an employer is not going to tell you why you didn’t get a job.
Where do you apply for waiver? Son decided graduating early and has 3 acceptances so far. He has very high PSAT from last October and decent SAT, very high ACT and 3.9 uw gpa.

That’s essentially the same info provided in the Student’s Guide. Talk to your GC about how to use this score. Also contact NMSC for more info.
Maybe your son should reconsider graduating early…especially considering your concern about his potential, college work ethic, video gaming, and costs to attend college…all posted on your other threads.
@Erin’s Dad GC is very helpful in early graduation and college applications in general. She didn’t have an answer to nmf related. She did say she will research for us.
@thumper1 nothing will change if he stays home for another year. Maybe college will push him harder or break him. Either way he will learn his lessons of the real world. I have a very strong-willed child.
Wow.
The mom of his friend told me that her son is only allowed to apply for military schools, also because of video games
You are concerned about the bills for college. You are concerned about your kid’s work ethic when he gets to college.
He sounds like he is running the show.
Perhaps he will benefit from leaving HS early…but I’m going to tell you, that for MANY kids this isn’t the cure to all,of their HS ills (not being challenged, etc).
But back to your questions about scholarships. I would not ask. I would, have the kid apply…and see what happens.
On the committees on which I served, we would have only asserted questions related to the application process…not one thing about eligibility.
