If you put up a Christmas tree, when will it go up?

Ours always come down January 1. Some in our neighborhood still have outside lights up but they are on timers. I expect its just a matter of weather being too cold to take them down. First warm weekend we get and they will be down. And at this point most are already down. To me there is a season and once the season is past, its time to move on.

We got a new tree for next year. Old one was 20 years old (bought on clearance for $300). Every year we talked about getting a year one when we put the old one up (it was showing wear but still looked good). But we never did anything come January. This year we took the leap. Will be very different in 11 months with a different tree for first time in 2 decades.

We haven’t taken down our tree yet—just put it up a few days before Christmas.

All of my inside stuff is still up; I usually take everything down the weekend after epiphany, but we’ve been sick. I’m kind of enjoying the decorations with all the snow outside. Maybe I’ll let it go and see how long it takes DH to say something  :joy:

We always take everything down on New Years Day and this year was no exception. With our move we also went through everything and threw some stuff out and gave away some stuff.

Many of our neighbors still have the outside lights up. According to the HOA they should be taken down by the end of the month. Personally, I’m kind of liking seeing the lights. It seems like such a dark world lately I think we need it.

My Anglican friends told me Christmas season lasts until Candlemas (early Feb).

When H and I walked through the UCSD campus last night we noticed two different apartments in the student housing still had their trees up.

Oh, I have a friend who often has hers up until May. No reason except that she’s lazy. Her husband had a health scare over new years and still isn’t very strong, so I imagine it will be May or later this year.

I started taking down the tree this morning because my sister called panicked that the bug company came today and was spraying Poison around her yard and she had 2 grand babies in her care and wanted to have breakfast at our house with babies. We had a nice picnic in front yard and the. Our shade vanished so they left to go to a park until nap time.

I was taking down fragile ornaments in case they came in house (not child safe)— D is my baby at 32! Lol!

Our decoration are down but our artificial tree is still up, lights only, no decorations. I think it looks beautiful, just warm lights and not “christmasy.” I do yoga every morning in that room while it’s still dark outside and it is lovely to practice by the tree lights. Very soothing in these dark days.

On Sunday, son’s GF texted me the a pic of the empty space between the kitchen and family room after she took down the tree. (She also put up the tree. Injury-inducing thump on the head to offspring who allowed this.) She asked if I had any ideas for what to do with that space. Why yes. I certainly do. Glad you asked

I think this one may be a keeper.

Our cleaning woman is coming back next Tuesday, so I figure she can take care of the stray needles, which means the tree is coming down this weekend. DH loves the tree and would probably keep it until it turned brown if I let him. I won’t keep it past the date the sanitation department says they will take them which is usually the first of February.

I know a lady from church in the town we used to live in who leaves her artificial Christmas tree up all year and decorates it seasonally - Valentine’s, Easter, Independence Day, Halloween, etc. Not sure what she does when there are larger gaps with no holidays. Maybe spring/fall/summer type decor??

My mom used to do that with a pencil tree. I remember she decorated it for my baby shower :joy: I did take our’s down this week; I hated to see it go, but it was time.

My kids had a white table top tree in their bedroom that we used as a nightlight. I decorated it for each holiday and it was pretty easy to get about 7-8 months of themes and just stretch them out for about 6 weeks to get to the next month (flag day for June into the 4th of July for example).

It was fun.

I still have my artificial wreath on my front door - decorated with a bow I tied myself using a YouTube video and homemade decorations. It makes me smile every day when I see it coming home after work. It will stay up until I get tired of it.

Funny story. Friends of ours live on a long cul de sac. In the past when we would be driving to their house we noticed that so many homes still had their Christmas lights up and turned on. We couldn’t believe when it got to March and this was still happening. We finally asked our friends, and they responded that there was a bet in the neighborhood on who would crack first and take down the lights. I think they finally came down the first or second week of March :joy:

My DH still has our lights (and a wreath :woman_facepalming:t3:) up around our pool. I told him our new neighbor will be wondering exactly how long we plan to keep them up and DH explained to me that the lights make him happy.

His neighbor (and coworker) still has his lights up out front.

We’ve never had our lights up past January and here we are almost hitting Feb!

If they are around the pool, they count as “party lights” and you can keep them up as long as you want!
We noticed last night that a house near here still has four large oak trees in their backyard wrapped in lights and merrily ablaze. These are large trees and not the kind of lighting job the average homeowner can accomplish. I think that if we had paid that $$ to have lights installed we would be leaving them up semi-permanently. Not lit every night year round, but sometimes
. With LED lights the power draw isn’t that bad.

I like that renaming
”party lights”. :+1:
I will keep that term ready for when we cross paths with new neighbor
.and maybe with a bottle of wine in hand, hahha!
