I almost bought a Christmas pillow yesterday for our guest bedroom for when ds is here this year. He has a felt Advent Calendar of a manger scene he has had since he was a young child that I still put up, and he still pulls out the little animals, shepherds, angel, Mary, Joseph, and Jesus (on the last day).
We get ours from a local tree lot Thanksgiving weekend & put them (2) up a week or so later. H washes them thoroughly to help with my mold allergy. We usually put them up the weekend after. We always take them down New Yearās Day. I love Christmas, and I havenāt tired of decorating the house for it. I have donated some of my decorations over the years, because I just had too many.
We adopted two senior cats in late winter, and I am a little worried about how they will be with the trees. We have had quite a few cats over the many years we have been married, and none have climbed the Christmas trees ā¦ letās hope the streak continues!
Our cats just love to drink the wild Christmas tree water! No climbers here.
Not my holiday but thought of this thread today when I walked into my hair salon and they have the holiday wreaths and garlands up. No tree, though. (My Chanukah decorations will go up the day before it starts, which is sunset on November 28.)
I still have the felt Advent Calendar that I made for our girls, too! We still put it up and this year I will make it a point since the nest is empty to put a little extra into the gifts.
We host Thanksgiving and I have an ironclad rule that the pumpkins stay out until the day after.
Not sure what we will do about a tree this year but we never put one up until mid December. And it comes down on New Years Day.
We get a real tree and usually put it up around the second weekend in December so it will last through the holidays.
Second week of Decemberā¦
I used to do it the weekend right after Thanksgiving. But now I do it the week afterā¦decorate in stages, too much for one day.
We always go to our local farm and cut one down the weekend after Thanksgiving. Weāve been going to the same place for 18 years.
We used to do it a week later, but since our older daughter went to college, sheās only home over Thanksgiving. Enough water has kept it fresh through Christmas, but it goes out shortly after.
My wife wants to put the Christmas tree up right after Thanksgiving; I want to put it up December 24. So we compromise and go get one in the first or second week in December, and get it inside in a stand; then our kids will decorate it when they come home for Christmas. (Although my wife starts moving furniture and other things around in our living room right after Thanksgiving, just to remind me that the clock is ticking on getting our tree; but since she unpacks/packs all the Christmas decorations from a couple of storage tubs, I donāt begrudge it. Even though her eye is always on me until we come home with the tree. )
We always get our tree down and out of the house before January 1 ā bad luck to keep it up after the New Year!
If I were Christian (which Iām not, but I do celebrate Christmas), Iād say you can have your tree from November 28 (the first day of Advent this year) until Three Kings Day on January 6. I donāt believe in celebrating Christmas until Thanksgiving is over. Since we get real trees, we usually get them around a week or two before Christmas.
Weekend after thanksgiving for us. Mostly due to fact we have had two big artificial trees in past that I couldnāt put up without Ds help (H has health issues and canāt help with hauling and lifting). Got rid of smaller tree last year and got new smaller one that I can handle on my own, but other one is still a 2 person job. I collect nativities and love to have them all out for holidays. And Iām a sucker for twinkle lights.
We normally set up the Christmas tree the weekend after Thanksgiving.
Weāre having a party on Dec 9th so this year Iām starting the tree before Thanksgiving. Iāve never done that before but I have to do it all by myself and I donāt want the pressure right before the party. I hand tie every ornament onto the tree with a red ribbon so it takes quite a while and I have to break it up over several days. I have over 200 sterling silver ornaments that are due for some polishing this year so I will do that in about a week. Seems that Iām a glutton for punishment but the end result is beautiful.
Holy moly thatās intense! You should post a pic when you have it done!
Here I am whining about the two hours I have to invest starting with hauling it in the door, putting lights on and loading the ornaments.
Yes, please post a pic!
usually mid-december; from a tiny rural tree farm. i think i posted this last year; but the ownersā daughter turned out to be one of my daughterās architecture professors at her undergrad! we feel a connection to that family now. All 3 of my out of state kids will be here for Christmas; they arent coming home for thanksgiving.
Usually itās the weekend after Thanksgiving, but itās been a rough couple months for the fam. I just took down everything fall to try and change the mood/vibe in the house. We could really use some Christmas cheer, so it may go up next weekā¦calendar be damned. I hit up Aldi for the advent calendars yesterday; we may hit those early as well, donāt judge
We get a real tree and keep it up until Epiphany usually. Due to that, in the past, we waited until 7-10 days before Christmas, depending on where that weekend fell. However, in the past two years, there was a bit of a tree shortage, so we got it earlier while there was still a good selection. We will probably do the same this year and take it down earlier (but no earlier than New Years Day).
I do, however, usually put up my outdoor fresh garland that I wrap with white Christmas lights the first forecasted warm day in early December. We never start decorating until at least December 1.
