would you some how mention that in your application?

will it help or hurt?

being gay is not a big part of who i am, i am just a normal guy who happens to be gay, so I thought maybe I shouldn't mention it. Besides, my sexuality is my personal business, and not something that adcom has to know.

but i wouldn't mind sharing if it can help me in anyway.....i do want to get into princeton really bad.

If I were you I wouldn't just because I think it'll come off that it's a part of you, but not a big part of you. If you did consider it a big part of you, I would say so, but I also think that it's not some huge deal anymore to say it in your essay, so either way I don't think it'll change your admission chance. I don't think it'll help or hurt you.

well, considering being an "underrepresented racial minority" gives you a definite boost, I'd think it would make sense for gay students to also get a slight boost, as they have also faced discimination... but hey, whoever said life was fair?

I think if you show that realizing you were gay, facing problems, etc., has caused you to grow and mature, that might be a good idea for an essay. However, you may have other ideas for essays that show how you grew in other ways, or show different things about you, too.
For some schools, like Princeton, they may be looking to attract more of a gay population (other schools may not be worried about that)...but I wouldn't try to play that game.
