IGCSE A levels a a private candidate?

Hey guys and gals,
I'm currently in class 12 in a CBSE school, plan to apply to colleges in the US( Berkeley, Stanford, MIT, et all) and UK( imperial, cambridge) and Canada( toronto)do u think its a good idea taking my A levlels as a private candidate? Would that offer me an added advantage or something for schools in the USA and Canada? Or is giving ones board exams just enough to get through??

Also if somebody could give me a step by step breakdown about how to go about applying for my A levels.

Thanks!

Wow. I really wouldn’t mind doing that as well!

bump!
that didnt help very much!!!

i don’t think taking a second board will help you for admission to UK/USA. It will increase your work load for 11th and 12th and as GPA is important for US admissions, you will have to perform very well in both boards.

which grade you are in?

For the US uni. that you have listed, you have to get excellent marks in either 1oth/11th grade of CBSE or IGCSE/ AS & A levels.(Because GPAs are as important as SAT scores.

if u r sure of going abroad, why not change the board?

For giving A levels exams, you can register through any Cambridge board school as an external student.

I am taking A levels

changing my board is not an option, i’ve just entered 12th.
i know US follows IB, but IGCSE is accepted too, u need a min grade of AAB.

any cambridge school u say wll allow me to register??

USA doesnt entirely follow IB dude… :\

I regret the fact that I didnt do IB… But that was because I wasnt sure of going abroad… :S

USA considers not only IB but A levels, CBSE and ICSE board also for giving admission but credits are given mostly to IB/A levels and AP exams(by MIT also).

And for list of uni like MIT, Stanford etc. it is not AAB but AAA (or AAA* as now from 2010 they will be giving A* also)

They consider ANY accredited board.

thanks fr all the replies
