Rooster - I guess you've found a friend in Kurian. I'm curious - do you believe that Israel - even in its pre-1967 borders - has a right to exist?

Uh, did you not read what I said? That I'm against ALL VIOLENCE AND HATRED in this world. Are you saying that some groups have a free-license to murder others? Can some nations or priviledged races kill anyone they want, bomb anyone they want, murder all the children they want, and bulldoze all the houses they want? If I criticize those groups for their violent, racist actions am I the bad guy? I guess I am an anti-Semite then, since I don't think it's okay under any circumstances for thousands of innocent civilians to be kicked out of their own homes and murdered, even if the victims happen to be Palestinian. Gee, what a cold-hearted, ignorant person I am for caring about other people's suffering.

I sincerely hope you are being sarcastic.

No I am not. Do you remember september 11th when the Palestinans bombs the world trade center? I think Israel is doing the right thing fighting terrorism. You have to crack a few eggs to make an omelet, and if a few children or civilians have to die, then so be it. They suffered a lot during the Holocaust so they have a right to cause a little bit of suffering to others.

"Do you remember september 11th when the Palestinans bombs the world trade center?"
uber, i really hope youre being facetious, becuase as a new yorker and someone who lived through 9/11, i find it extrremely offensive that you use this atrocity (incorrectly at that) to further your own personal need. the wtc wasn't bombed, and it wasn't by palestinians. Please get it right next time.

On a different note, I think there is a dangerous shift right now where people are associating judiasm immediately with zionism. I know my jewish friends get very offended when people assume that they are pro israel because they are jewish, and that if they're not zionists they're somehow less jewish. On their behalfs I'd like to say that the Israel situation isn't perfect, and the discussion of that shouldn't be silenced with cries of anti semitism.

EDIT: i'd also like to clarify that I think that the article is absolutely outrageous and offensive.

We expect that CC will be a friendly and enjoyable place to learn about college admissions. It isn't intended to be a debating society. We certainly expect differing opinions, but occasionally we find members who are compelled to dissect the posts of others, quote those posts extensively, and attempt to rebut each point. At some point this becomes annoying to other members and crosses the boundary of polite behavior. Thanks for your cooperation in keeping our atmosphere cordial and welcoming.

thank you jem, lets end this thing now.

hmmm i think not.

I was too lazy to read most of the posts but I still would like to say that suppressing hate does not stop it. Just because some Kurian guy posts an article you want to flame about it. Well whats the difference between thinking hate and talking about it? I'll tell you, its talking about it that really gets things done, and im not saying oh lets invite people to a conference or any bs, Im saying if they want to talk hate they should be allowed to so as to get it all in the open. Bottling up your emotions is not good no matter what they are.

Who CARES if he's a Duke grad or a Harvard grad or a community college grad....it makes no difference what education he receives, because ALL people have views, especially you since you posted this thread.

oib1 is simply wrong... period

... and for reasons that have continually been stated over and over.

while i have ABSOLUTELY no right to comment on this matter since i am neither a duke student or a person who's grandparents were killed during the holocaust [and with the utmost respect, i am truly sorry for wat happened]... BUT.... this DOES NOTTTT change the fact that one man's opinion is NOT that of an entire university...
on the contrary, i view duke as a place that promotes and fosters individual opinions... we all have different views, ideas and thoughts, we are all entitled to our views... no matter how different... and one of the things that makes this country and every university in it so great is that we can freely express our opinion without being harassed or pressured out of it... so oib1... BACK OFF

u might say... how can a duke senior with the benefit of a duke education have such an opinion?... welllll... the way i see it is...

u r attempting to make the argument that because he had a duke education... how can he have that opinion???.... but a duke education does not mean that everyone is going to agree with YOUR VIEWS!!... the purpose of education isnt to tell someone what to believe... its job is to inspire ppl into formulating their OWN opinions... through thought and motivation... i dont agree with this kid from duke... i hate his opinion... but saying that duke is a bad place to go because a kid has the balls to say wat is on his mind is simply... oh wats the word?... assanine?... stupid?....

Hey Im not a Duke student either but i think u did a good job of summarizing wat we all said. The OP was just trying to bring Duke down..hey maybe he got denied or something and holds a grudge like the thousands of others. ;)
