Illinois Wesleyan University Vs. UIUC

Can anyone comment about the workoad at IWU? I am looking to trasfer to IWU and want to know how the school is compared to UIUC in its reputation and preparation for law school. How does it compare to Wheaton(IL), does anybody know? Any comments and opinions are welcomed... Thanks.

anyone? please,.....

I know nothing about the workload, but I'm from Bloomington and I could wait to get out of that hell hole. I would never recommend to anyone to go to school in Bloomington-Normal.

Well, as an ISU alum (and resident of B/N for 3 more years after that), I might temper Kjane's opinion just a tad. There is a huge difference between the cultures of IWU and UIUC campus. I chose ISU (Normal), because at the time, I was intimidated by the sheer size and numbers of the UIUC campus and the reputed workloads (and I didn't consider IWU because it was too small, and my parents wanted public U tuition). IWU is a respectable school; don't go expecting a major exciting life outside of campus, that's all. UIUC will offer the most different opportunities, and you will find yourself a group of people to "belong" with, so it's not like you're immersed in this huge mass of people all alone. Wheaton college has a much more conservative reputation and is much more "religious" in nature than IWU, I believe. Obviously, with UIUC, there are no religious undertones at the university, although I suspect you can find any religious group to join that you want to. I think the key for you is getting awesome grades as an undergrad, acing the LSAT, and any of your choices will get you into a respectable law school. Go to the place that fits your personality best. Good luck.

I also grew-up in Bloomington with IW as my playground. Sneaking around the Science building was always interesting and I also took weekend art classes there.

I had to transfer back home to complete college at ISU and had friends at IW. Although IW is ranked high these days, I personally wouldn't encourage my daughters to go there. After touring so many colleges with them, I can say just about anywhere has a more cohesive campus and community. Also, if you aren't into bars and parties, there is really nothing much to do.

Keep in mind that B-N is in the middle of the ice belt, too. Skys are gray from Oct. to late April. The town is totally State Farm focused and unless you can get to Chicago on weekends, things to do are very limited. I do miss Avanti's though!

If it tells you anything, as soon as I graduated from ISU, I packed up my car and moved away as far as I could! I only go back when I absolutely have to.
