Also, as a former IPEC major, Econ at Georgetown is very easy, but not terribly useful for further studies unless you spend a lot of your free electives on non-required math courses. You can go through the entire IPEC curriculum and barely know basic economics and have no knowledge of math whatsoever. IECON is essentially the same as an ECON degree in the college, which is good in the sense you will learn more actual economics, but also means you lose out on a lot of the SFS specific courses which are oftentimes much more interesting.
The classes are also very generously curved, 40% of the class takes home an A-/A and I think something like another 20% get B+'s. It isn;t exactly cutthroat to get an A, even in higher level economics courses.
Went to the hill, loved the campus, checked in with the GSP office and they were very friendly and helpful. They were having an alumni reunion that day. Question, went to the Tomb, nice, but where can a student go to just get some chicken strips and fries? The buildings are beautiful. I hope I like dorm life and get a good roommate. If anyone out there wants a roommate who is serious about their studies, loves fantasy football, baseball, coin collecting and moderate politics and from Florida, or not, let me know.Lol!
^ There are quite a few cheap eats places along M Street and Wisconsin Ave in Georgetown as well as a bit further away up Wisc Ave in Glover Park, as well as around Dupont Circle and near GWU.
My daughter will be applying to Georgetown this summer. I happened to check their website yesterday, and the Georgetown Application for the class of 2018 is now available. Here’s the problem – after a student does step 1 of the application, they want the student to immediately do steps 2 and 3 which includes sending links to her recommenders and guidance counselor. Tomorrow is the last day of school, and this seems like terrible timing to be completing this. On the other hand, the website (and on an admissions tour), recommends that students complete the Georgetown Application asap so that their file is opened with admissions for their test scores, etc. Do you think my daughter should complete the Georgetown Application soon even though the teachers will be out for the summer?
^ My DD did hers in August and the teachers picked up the reference requests when school started. This works fine. The main reason to get Part I done asap is to notify GU to assign your DD an interview slot. Good luck!
Thank you, @londondad. This eases my mind, as what your daughter did is what makes sense to me. Also, it does say on the website that even if you do the part 1 now in the summer, you should expect to hear about an interview in early Oct. So, nothing gained in time with the interview by submitting it now. Thank you much.
Leo’s (surprisingly) actually does really good chicken fingers and fries. It’s called Chicken Finger Thursday although I don’t know if they’ll still have it next year considering the remodel. You can also get chicken fingers and fries from Bulldog Tavern in the HFSC which is pretty good too.
