I'm a rising Senior at Stanford and would love to answer any of your questions

I never used this site during high school but once I got into college a lot of my friends told me about how they would post on here or view what others wrote. I thought it'd be a good way of helping people out if I opened up myself to answering any questions you have about the school or admissions in general. I will answer as honestly and as best as I can.

Good luck to all you high school students

Sent you a message!

How have you found the career placement services at Stanford? Have you found that most graduating seniors have jobs (or grad school) in their chosen field upon graduation? How do your job prospects look following graduation next year? Is it true that “everyone who attends Stanford gets a job”?

Are you a premed or engineering major?

Im gonna be a freshman at Stanford this coming fall. Any advice for freshman year to make the most out of my experience?

My grades are above average. I have been actively involved in extracyrriculars. I will do my SAT this october. And i love writing. I mean i have won national awards in writing, i wrote for national newspapers weekely column while in high school… And now will be interning for few months for a regional magazine. So thats it i guess, and i belive i will have strong reccomendations. What do you think about my chances at stanford? I am a physics enthusiast basically and cud goto liberal arts college too. And yes i am not a US citizen and will be applying for a financial aid… Cud you suggest me colleges where I might end up at best? Please

Do you think I have a chance? I kinda dropped out my freshman year and then came back to an alternative school. My GPA is about 3.5 and I have no ec. Do I even have a chance?

Tried to send you a message but it kept saying it didn’t send.

Could you tell me my chances at Stanford and what I could do to better them?

I’m going into my junior year.

Unweighted GPA: 3.93
Rank: 9 out of 380
(I probably would be higher, but my freshman year was a little shaky. But since I’m doing better, I’ll probably rise)
I haven’t taken the SAT yet, but I hope to get over a 2200, though my actual goal is a 2400. My first unprepared practice this summer was a 1960.

I took AP World History and got a 3, unfortunately.

Throughout high school, I plan to take AP: Calculus, US History, French, Biology or Chemistry, English 3, English 4, Government, Economics, Psychology, and Music Theory.

I take Honors/Pre-AP classes whenever available.

EC’s:
President of French Club
French National Honor Society
National Honor Society
Student Council
Panther Pals - A program where upperclassmen go to underclassmen dens and take a “leadership” role there
Varsity Tennis
Played piano for eleven years (But only taken lessons for eight of those)
Taken drum lessons for three years
Have a part-time job at my church as a child-care worker
Am shadowing a doctor (40 hours)
I plan to join HOSA, as I decided I would like to be a doctor, Key Club, and the Academic Team. I realize I should have joined these earlier, but I recently revised my priorities.

Volunteer Work:
World Changers - A camp where we fix houses for those in need
Vacation Bible School
Acteens - A mission group at my church
Kidstown - A program for kids, in my church (for part of freshman year)
I’ll try to get more.

Awards: (I don’t have many)
Tennis Freshman Girls Singles District Champ (I might have been JV this year, but I tore my ACL)
I have had perfect attendance nine years of my life.
I was also nominated for the Chemistry Pre-AP Award, but I didn’t win.
I’m going to try for NMS
I compete in French Symposium every year, and hope to win an award this year.

I don’t know if this makes a difference but I am a black female. I was born in England and moved here when I was about five. My dad says that it might hurt me, because I wasn’t born in the US, but I don’t know.

I know this is quite long, but if you could give me advice on how to stand out and better my application, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Is it alright to be informal in essays? Of course, for the serious topics, I plan to write seriously… for lack of better words… x___o but is it okay to make a “bubbly” essay?

Gah my words are asklfdas;dfaskd; today.

Anyways. For example, if I wanted to write an essay on one of my passions, and the activity involves a lot of immature happiness and stupid humor (not offensive of course, just extremely childish), would it be alright to write the essay in a childish tone, or no?

For an internship I applied to, I wrote an extremely dark and serious, but heartfelt, essay about how I was bullied in Kindergarten, but I also wrote one with really random stuff like “fluffy candy corn rainbow unicorns”. I’ve heard from some people that putting your individual “voice” into the essay is fine, but I’ve also been told that a silly tone is too informal and amateurish to put in an essay…

Hey latcardinal4041, I just sent you a message!
