I'm one of those people taking a non-traditional route into banking. For those of you who have worked as summer analysts for BBs (the programs meant for rising seniors), were there any graduates in your programs? I'm trying to get a feel for if it's something that NEVER happens or something that rarely happens.

the graduates i saw during the summer were for associate positions (summer before last year of grad school), but I have no idea whether there are other situations

This is a very bad year for untraditional applicants.

It rarely, if ever happens and in this market, I don’t see it happening at all right now. That said, I would recommend that you consider pushing off graduation for a semester if you think you’ve got a good shot at landing an SA or even a boutique IB internship for next summer. In that case, you will still be a student the following fall semester, and will be able to intern that summer. Additionally, you will be able to interview for FT positions to start the next summer. This puts you back in the traditional applicant boat, which is where you’d rather be. Alternatively, you can focus on smaller boutiques that are far more lenient as it pertains to their structure and hiring practices.

IBanker

I’ve only seen a handful of individuals who were summer analysts during grad school. Partly, I believe it was because of their engineering background and pursuit of a MBA. Traditionally, the first summer or summer before the start of their graduate studies. And almost always for a trading department, never IBD. Since engineers typically have superb quantitative abilities.

I think you should definitely doing internship first. I benefited a lot from mine and it was really a good first-knock in terms of the understanding the financial world. Also, why don’t you check out the internships offered on this site: [BusinessBecause | the magazine about business students around the world](http://www.businessbecause.com/jobs). Looks pretty cool and they got some very internationalo locations.

internship. the market right now is simply ridic screwy for straight FT’s prospects.

most i know are from conversion of SA.
