<p>R stands for Thursday (T is Tuesday). So that course is held on Mondays and Thursdays.</p>

<p>It goes back to ancient Chinese times. Right after Lun Tsai invented paper, he created the abbreviation for Thursday…</p>
<p>Chances are their first computerized registration system was written in ancient times and it was easier to give every day a one-character abbreviation. Luckily my college hired a more skilled programmer. Our Thursday is Th :)</p>
