I'm facing a dilemma

I'm trying to transfer colleges/universities and I'm currently facing a dilemma in terms of doing so, as so far despite excellent academic performance for my freshman year I find myself being denied to everywhere I apply thus far. Therefore I feel I am facing ether being stuck at my current school for another year or faced with going to a community college in which both situations present both their benefits and possible problems. As I also have a learning disability the subject of mathematics.

For myself I see the following,

My current college

Pro's of staying,

. I'm lined up to take a number of math and science requirements(both for general electives and my major) with fairly easy and layed-back professor's, which would allow me to get the math out of the way and add to my science record.

. I have established relationships both with my professors and peers, and I'm involved in some extracurriculars.

Con's of staying at my current institution,

. I currently attend a college not very well known outside of the region, plus my school us in WV which is a state not well known for producing academically successful institutions as a whole.

. My current school is not very supportive of it's students academically or socially.

. I feel like I'm missing out on many oppertunites I would get at a community college in my home state.

Pro's of going to a community college in my homestate,

.Would increase the number of courses and oppertunites that I would have as a Sophomore.

. Would guarantee me automatic admission into some of the best colleges/universities in the state, for example UVA or William & Mary after the coming year due to the fact that I attended a community college to finish my associates and I am in-state resident as live in Virginia.

Con's

. I wouldn't have as high a chance of obtaining the easy solution out of the math dilemma.

. I worry if it would look bad that I transferred from my current school to a community college.

With all of this facing me especially if anyone has been in the same situation, could anyone provide me with their opinion of my dilemma?

I don’t think I can advice you on your collegiate career, because I don’t want to mislead you. However I think Math would be essential for all studies and in every institution. You might as well aim for the top school.

Oh I am aiming for the best schools, it’s just the question of getting there for me even though I am in a fairly good situation academically.

I was actually referring back to ur statement about the Cons of CC: “I wouldn’t have as high a chance of obtaining the easy solution out of the math dilemma.”

Which CC would you go to in VA? NOVA?

Pop by the admissions office of the CC that you are interested in this summer and talk through your options with them. Usually, CCs have good disabilities services so I expect you should be able to find accommodations for your issues at whichever one you would attend.

If you visit the Transfer Forum, you will see multiple threads about transferring “down” to the CC closest to the author’s home. Some ran out of money, some got homesick, some changed majors, some flunked. Each student has a different story. If you decide that this is your best option, go for it. Lots of people do this every single year.

Wishing you all the best.
