Obviously, I'm simply a mixture of the two non-URM ethnicities. However, since I'm applying to top colleges with a huge over representation of asians, should I mark down caucasian for college applications?

Mark down biracial. Or whatever you want – you’re overthinking this

Since you are 50% of both, there’s nothing unethical about marking Caucasian. It’s your choice; mark what you feel best describes you.

And this is relevant because…?

It’s relevant because some colleges do use affirmative action, which is positive discrimination for URMs, and negative for RMs and whites.

Thexfatality, I marked down all of mine (there were check-boxes and you could “mark all that apply”), and I was sorry because they took me as a minority and I never knew if I was accepted on my merits. I can only guess so because two white kids with worse grades than me from my HS got in, but I will never know.

If it’s anonymous and used for cumulative data only, mark both.

If it’s open-ended, mark “bi-racial” or “multi-ethnic”.

If you can choose two, or one, that’s tough. Does it ask what you consider yourself, or what you are, or what you were on the census?
