I'm in trouble, attempting transfer to Emory U.

Take a look at the results from my first college semester at The College of New Jersey, and tell me I'm insane:

Fall 2008 (each course 4 credits):
- PSY101 General Psychology: A-
- Freshm.Semin.111 Mind, Morality, and Free Will (transferred in VCU as 100-level PHIL elective): A-
- COM242 Interpersonal Communication: W (I have a good explanation for this.)
- SOC101 Introduction to Sociology: F

Wow! An F.
That's "F" as in "EFF" as in "YOU FAIL"

I never attended that class, due to a VERY serious family problem which required me to travel home every other day. So I failed. I hope that when I explain the hard details - I won't here - it will fly with the admissions officials. I couldn't withdraw because it would have compromised my scholarship. And I was forced to stop showing up AFTER I'd already withdrawn from the other class.

CAN I GET INTO EMORY U.? MY DREAM SCHOOL? I've tried to redeem myself.

This is what I have to offer, since that disaster:

I transferred to Virginia Commonwealth U. after my first semester. I'm now in my third semester; earned 32 non-AP credits between TCNJ and VCU, and just studied abroad in Barbados over the summer. Will have earned 44 credits by end of semester.

- PSY321 Social Psychology
- HIST387 West African History

That's a 4.0, friends

Work experience:
- Completed intensive gov't research internship at NIH (NIAID Division).
- Self-employed musician, performing at paid gigs and appearances.

And I have plenty of ECS/awards throughout high school and college, a plentiful many.. in greater quantity and quality than most Ivy League applicants, from what I've seen here. Don't mean to be cocky! It's important information. I could post that info here later too..

So..
If I try to transfer to Emory, or even UVA, would I be wasting my time? Will they laugh in my face?
You think I'll be able to graduate on time if I transfer?

Many thanks

There’s nothing laughable about your profile. It’s very good, since you have a valid reason for the F on your transcript and a perfect GPA since then. Not wasting your time at all to apply.

Whether you can graduate on time depends on how readily they accept your credits. Hard to predict.
