I'm Not Sure How To Use My College Scholarship

So I received essentially a full ride from my university, and this is the breakdown they sent me:

Budget:
Tuition- 41,560
Room and Board - 13,650
Fees - 693
Orientation- 625
Telephone line fee- 30
Books/Supplies- 800
Personal Expenses- 1550
Transportation- 600

Family contribution- 0
Work-study- 0

Total: 59,508

I do have to pay for campus health insurance on my own, which is around $1030.
My main question is- how do I use my books/supplies, personal expenses, and transportation scholarships?
Are they in the form of a check granted to me? How am I suppose to receive those allocated amounts?

I’d contact the financial aid office and ask them. I’d bet different schools have different methods.

Get it from them. You don’t want to mess up a great deal because “I read on the internet that it was different.”

You should be able to cash out the balance, sometimes after certain date.

Do you have your own insurance? If so, you should be able to waive the school one as long as yours has sufficient coverage.

You should ask the school. There might be a bookstore credit for you for the books, or they might give you a check for the $300 each semester. Same with travel or personal expenses. Lots of ways for them to handle it (debit card, on student account) but they know you’ll need some to get started so probably have a plan set up. Congrats, what a great deal.

Contact the college and ask them. We don’t even know the name of your school, so how can we help you with this question.

It’s Rice.

@NIGHTLOCK,

Congratulations on your Questbridge admission to Rice! My son went there and whenever I had questions about his bill, I contacted the Cashier Office and they were very friendly and helpful. Here’s a link with their phone number and email address. http://professor.rice.edu/IndependentPage.aspx?id=7076. Give them a shout and ask your questions. They’ll be happy to help

Did he share which school he was attending? Must be in another thread. Its a fabulous school! Congrats!
