I'm not sure where my life is going...have you ever felt that?

Why not consider law school? Even if you major in English, Pol Sci (since you like expressing politics- you may enjoy this major), Rhetoric, Philosophy, ect, you could always go to law school. If you can do better in these humanities majors (since you like to write), and ace the LSAT, you could make it it into a top law school and potentially score a 6 figure salary (obviously this is better said than done, but definitely possible).

By choosing to go to law school, you have the double benefit of choosing a major that you truly enjoy (who cares what others think- plus if you tell your Asian/Indian friends you’re pre-law, I doubt they would have no respect for you), and you have the potential opportunity of making big bucks.

^that isn’t a bad idea, actually. my dad told me i should consider law, but being an asian, i stubbornly thought MCB or nothing.

gobears, i have already finished chem1a, math1a-1b, chem3a, and am taking bio1b this summer. i signed up for bio1a/1al already…

if i decide to switch to another major, what is a good major for law? also, college of letters and science want us to declare by end of 2nd year (i’m incoming 2nd year). how would that work if i decide to switch?

My only concern is if i don’t make it into law school, I’m stuck with a major that potentially has no good job aspects…for MCB atleast, I can work in a research lab (which i have done before…and i wasn’t just like a grunt, i actually did my own projects, etc.)

The Pol Sci major only needs two courses to declare (I’m serious). You could probably take these two courses in one semester actually. From there, you have to take a research course on stats methods (pol sci 3), 8 upper div courses, and one history course. Not that bad. Courses have a B+ average. While it takes work to get an A- and A for sure(you need to be ahead of your peers in writing ability and know the material very well), it’s much easier than getting A’s in MCB and engineering.

Also I’ve taken Bio 1B(I like science, but I hate math- that’s why I’m not a hard science major at Cal because I would like to avoid calculus). The amount of information presented between my pol sci classes and Bio is similar. The material wasn’t any more difficult in Bio- it required similar skills to history and Pol Sci- memorizing and understanding concepts. Just the tests in Bio were much, much harsher. So just because Pol Sci doesn’t have as challenging exams doesn’t mean the amount of information you are presented with is any less

You do have a legitimate concern about humanities majors not finding sustainable jobs. That’s why I’m completely focused on getting high grades so that I can get into a reasonable law school.

Ok. Yeah, I’m still deciding on what I want to major in…

I was looking at economics too, but it is capped, so I don’t want to risk that. What exactly does it mean to be capped? Is it like a whole new admissions process, where they look at ECs, etc. Or do you just need above a 3.0 in prerequisites? Because I do have that, the only classes that brought me down are chem1a and chem3a, but those aren’t prereqs…

also, is econ good in terms of job prospects? sigh, this is so difficult.

You can go to law school from any major. Political science and English are among the most popular pre-law majors, but you should not feel that you must do such a major to be pre-law.

If you are interested in applying law in a particular field, you may want to major or minor in something that gives you some knowledge of the field. Patent lawyers often come from undergraduate study in science and engineering.

According to https://career.berkeley.edu/Major/Econ.stm</a>, a lot better than MCB.

I wasn’t joking when I said write a diary.

And come to think about it, looking at career center statistics from 4~5 years ago won’t tell you how much you’ll fare in the upcoming 4~5 years. Idk, it’s the same logic that a good investor wouldn’t really get too sensitive about looking at 4~5 years of previous trend to invest in the next 4~5 years. Of course, having this data is better than having no data, but it seems like people are too afraid or over-encouraged to study a certain major just because of statistics from the past.

What’s then is then. It might not be applicable today or tomorrow.

Well, maybe except for philosophy majors, lol.

While it is true that economic and industry cycles have a big effect on job and career prospects, some majors seem to have ups and downs, while other majors seem to stay down most or all of the time, in terms of career survey results.

Ok, uhm, i’m thinking about economics, but Econ 1 is full.

I could take 2 classes that equal Econ1 at Berkeley City College, but am I taking a big risk here? Even if I do take these 2 classes there, how will I know that I will get into the major for sure? (since it is capped). Does pretty much everyone get into the major? By capped, does it mean that I have to have good ECs, a personal statement, etc. to apply to this major and hope that they accept me?

Ok, so i need an average gpa of 3.0 to get in. Out of the prereqs, i have taken math1a and 1b, scoring a B+ in both…and one half of the r and c requirements with an A. so, SO FAR, i am good for getting into this major?

wow I’m SO glad I came to this site. I was having a mental breakdown after getting a midterm back and taking another one which I thought would be easy and I just stared at most of the problems for like 10 minutes before attempting them. I don’t understand. This school is just ridiculous. Before coming to this site, I was thinking I’m the only one whose just too stupid to pass these classes with a decent A or even B.

I have a question though, what can you do with a Bachelor’s degree? I planned to go to grad school but now, I’m not so sure I can even get in. Now I know why many of the seniors I’ve talked to, said they were not going to grad school.

^hey, i have mostly Bs, and one A. so it isn’t like i am failing…just my gpa could be better.

and a bachelor’s degree in what? for engineering, they say you could get a good job. for science, you usually have to go to grad school to do anything significant. which i am planning on doing for any degree anyway.

Oh sorry I didn’t mean to insult you. I meant that I thought I was alone and I felt stupid but now that I guess that there are more people like me, maybe I’m not. Idk. I probably am though : p

[What Can I Do With a Major In…?](https://career.berkeley.edu/Major/Major.stm)

if i want to take a class at a community college while taking classes at Berkeley, can i just go and do it? or do i need permission? how does that work?

For students in L&S:

Policies differ in other colleges.

thanks. but can someone answer my question? usually, everyone gets into the major, even if they say it is capped (only if they apply before 5th semester)?

i haven’t switched anything yet, i’m still on the track to mcb. i just applied at the BCC and will enroll in the economics courses once they let me.

but once i do enroll, i will drop biology and replace with stats 21. is that a good idea? is stats 21 a good class?
