I'm on a college search project and i chose GRINNELL!!! as one of my 5 choices..

Hmm.. i'm not sure if Grinnell fits me, but i tend to be a very adaptable person; i fit in right away wherever i go because i dislike feeling uncomfortable.

i'm from this suburban city in the Los Angeles Area named Arcadia. I attend Arcadia High School, a very competitive high school where i try to take all the hardest courses. I do not have the best GPA. 3.63 maybe. I am not one to study all the time and i hold many leadership positions. One that is most important to me: i am the captain of our colorguard. a team with over 60 members, a bronze-medal at world championship, and a chance to march in both the rose parade and the inaugural parade. ahh.. i love it :) i also participate in 3 other clubs, i play 2 instruments, and yea.. i like being involved. :)

college search is tough for me.. because i keep wanting to apply to reach schools because of my mom's asian paranoia over brand-names. i've finally convinced her of the high quality of claremont schools, but even some of those schools are reaches. :(

i am trying to start the application process earlier so i can spend the summer studying for SATs, reading, exercising, colorguard-ing, working on personal essays, and chilling. This way, i can have a less stressful senior year hopefully. :D

p.s. i find almost everything amusing, except dirt, filth, and rotten things...

actually i find rotten things amusing too, but in a gross way!

The Claremont schools are getting reachier. This year Pomona was, I think, the most highly selective LAC in the country, accepting less than 16%. CMC wasn't far behind and Pitzer drastically cut its acceptance rate too. The Claremont schools are 10-15% Asian, Grinnell is 1% Asian, giving you, I would think, a big advantage there. It is in a VERY small Midwestern town. My son finds it charming and the campus is loaded with activities, visiting lecturers, concerts, etc., but if you need a city or can't tolerate some snow, it would not be for you. My son loved the intellectual curiousity and light-heartedness of the students when he visited. Almost all of them do some community service, most are politically active and they tend to be involved in lots of activities. Their parties/dances sound really creative and fun. I don't know whether there's a colorguard. Sounds like you're keeping your mind open--hope your Mom can do so too. It's hard when there's a lot of pressure culturally. Large #s of Grinnell grads go on for grad. and prof. degrees. It is a prestigious school in academic circles. Carleton is another great LAC in the Midwest.
