I'm really worried that I'll get my admission rescinded.

So, for AP calculus, we are doing a bunch of practice tests, and my teacher is scoring how we do on the practice tests.

I'm horrendously bad at math, and so far, I've been getting 1's on all of the practice tests (yes, I know---I'm embarrassed for myself too)---I've missed all the review sessions for these tests because of college visits.

I've been studying hardcore for calculus, but if I don't raise my score to a 3 (which merits a B), I will get a D in his class for the quarter for getting 1s on my practice tests. I will get a C for getting 2s.

I'm horrified that I'll not do well again on my next and final practice test. Right now, it looks like I'm getting that D for the quarter. Since I got an 88 on my 2nd quarter of this semester, I will be averaging a high 80 and a D, which is probably a 70 in the worst-case scenario, so I'll be getting around a 79-ish for the semester.

Would Harvard rescind me for getting a 79---which is two points away from a D----if I get all A's in the rest of my classes?

What's the worst that could happen?

How were your grades in the class first semester? Will this be a sudden drop or were you bad at math all year.

how is a 79 two-points away from a D?

Grades first semester = 90

In our school system, a 77 is a D. 100-93 is an A.

OK--a good example PorkFriedRice--all A's in other classes and probably throughout high school--and terrific SAT or ACT scores--no? And always "horrendously bad at math" No? They admitted you on the full body of work--not one marking period in one course in a subject you're historically not good at. Don't sweat it...

Nah...a C's not going to get it rescinded...

You're putting work in right? Don't worry about it. Rescinding is only a check against excessive senioritis.

Yeah, I hear they're quite passionate about their accepted students.

Not likely to get rescinded. Harvard does love its students and accepted students. The types of things that would get one rescinded would be a ridiculous grade drop -- like to Ds and Fs -- getting into major legal problems or being caught for lying on your app or cheating/plagiarism in class.

After spending so much effort selecting a class from a large pool of outstanding students, Harvard isn't looking to rescind people for trivial reasons.

uhn?...a 77 is a D.

so..a B is 85-93
and a C is a 79-85?

wow...

But it would be a good idea to get a tutor just so you get a C in the course. Even if math isn't your strength, a tutor probably could help you get a C.

Do what NorthStarMom says and get a tutor. Then get off CC and get to work. Don't return to CC or waste anymore time till after the AP exam.

And keep mentally in focus. Do not think about Harvard during the preparation and taking of the exam or until the end of the school year. That would just make you nervous and you might blow it just from the stress.

well.... schools only send harvard your FINAL grade. I calculated my grade out... and even if I get an F in calculus this quarter... I would still end up with a low B. Currently surviving with a D though....

Agree with NorthStarMom to get a tutor and make sure that you have nothing to worry about.
