I'm so worried about my future?

During my Freshman year I slacked, didn’t really care about my grades and ended up digging a deep hole for myself. I finished Freshman year with an unweighted GPA of 2.4 and a weighted GPA of 2.6. Making myself in the bottom 50% of my class.

Sophomore year I knew I had to change and I began caring, I finished the year with an unweighted GPA of 2.75 and a weighted GPA of 3.125. My rank went up and now I’m no longer in the bottom 50%, and managed to finish my one AP Class with an A.

My first semester of Junior year is about to end and everything is going well, and from what I’ve calculated if I continue working hard for the rest of the year my GPA by the end of this school year will be 3.6 weighted and a 3.0 unweighted. Currently this year I am taking 3 AP Courses, one which I am taking right now and currently have an A.

I’m extremely worried about my future, I started high school poorly and it has hurt my GPA tremendously.

Do colleges look for improvement?

Sorry if this was a bit much I ended up typing more than I expected. I’m just so worried about my future and feel like I’ve done horrible. I really want to attend either ECU, UNCW, or NC State. I pretty much feel like I have no chance at getting into NC State but yea, blah. I’m just so worried and overwhelmed about college and all.

There is still hope, your improvement is great and taking and doing well in APs shows schools that you can handle college level classes. Keep working hard to get GPA up, and study for your SAT and ACT, I assume you will take the ACT in school this year? Test scores are very important at NCSU, and I have found that UNCW can be somewhat holistic, looking at everything not just your grades and scores. And you should be on track for ECU if you keep your grades up.

Most importantly try not to stress. Funny story, my daughter (HS15), received her PSAT scores and came home in tears saying that she wasn’t going to get into UNC and she was going to have to go to tech school. We are a Tarheel family and I realized that we had never looked at, or talked about other schools, that that her field of vision was very narrow. We went the next week to visit ECU, to show here that NC has so many great schools, and that she has many options. That was our first visit of the 9 schools we ended up visiting, she applied to 8 and was excepted at all 8 (even UNC and NCSU), and she eventually accepted a spot in the Honor College at ECU. (Turns out she was more of an ACT person than an SAT person) My point is don’t give up, and look around at other school too and keep your options open. Good luck!
