I'm turning down Wellesey for ____________.

There are rude and inefficient staff no matter where you go.

A friend turned down Wellesley and is going to Brown instead. She received a full financial aid package at each school to which she applied, including Brown, but received only about $11,000 a year from Wellesley. They said the other schools, all three or four of them (I can't remember now), must have done the FAFSA incorrectly. (!) They were also apparently quite rude to her, though as someone else said, there are rude people everywhere.

So I guess the rumors I've heard of awful financial aid there must be true. Sad to see that. I had originally considered applying, but now I'm kinda glad I crossed them off a while ago.

Not necessarily. The definitions of "middle class" and "unaffordable" are quietly changing at the same time that the costs of higher education are climbing steadily upward. There seems to be a chasm between the current measurement tools and the student/parent expectations of financial aid.

While some people are having trouble with Wellesley financial aid, I have to say Wellesley gave me the most generous offer of all the schools I applied to, and all the staff I've spoken with have been very nice.

Admissions lady is courteous and quick, and sounds like a nice grandma, which I find comforting.

Health office lady was an absolute doll.

I haven't had to have any conversations with financial aid--as I said they gave me a completely suitable and wonderfully generous offer, so perhaps there are some rude people there.

Financial aid, much like admissions, is a crapshoot.

Based on my experiences no one should be crossing Wellesley off of their list due to financial aid rumors. Really financial aid rumors are a bad reason to cross any college off a list, financial aid is so random.
