I know there are a crapload of threads about low Orgo grades affecting Medical School and the consensus is that it wont make or break you if you have a good overall package.

Is this true for a program specifically in Chemistry? I'm worried that a C+ in a fundamental Chemistry course will reflect particularly badly on my application.

So can I expect more rejections than otherwise? I have a decent GPA from a tough LibArt school and lots of research experience + second author on a paper that won me an award at an analytical chemistry symposium (a real one, not some college thrown student research symposium).

What is your major GPA? How did you do in upper level chemistry courses? If everything else looks good and if you’ve had solid research experience, it probably won’t matter much, if any. Adcoms are used to seeing a glitch here and there, even within the major. If you took orgo as a sophomore or earlier, that’s even better.

I did take it as a sophomore. I have yet to take Physical Chem, but my Analytical Chem grade was an A- and my Environmental Chem (which is also my major) grade was an A. My other Orgo II grade was a B+ and my Gen Chem grades were also B+(also not great since these are generally seen as easy). My chemistry GPA overall is tad lower than my overall (music course for example pulled up my GPA…I minored in music and have gotten nothing but A’s).
