Hello CC,

I got selected as a Siemens Semifinalist this year. Do you know if that is a big impact for Brown, Cornell, or Columbia. Not HYPSM but still Ivy League schools.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi rp1000,

From my limited experience, people I know who have won that award have all gotten into good schools. There was a girl I knew who was a semifinalist, and she got into Yale last year. There was also a girl who was a finalist several years ago who was accepted into MIT.

Hi, first of all, Congratulations on your achievements! I just want to say, awards alone don’t mean very much to admissions, unless they see the whole picture. I have won some awards in science which some people call “major”, such as 2nd place at ISEF, and the Davidson Fellows Scholarship, yet that didn’t stop me from getting deferred to Harvard EA this year. There’s a very real chance that you might get in, but also at the same time, there is a chance to get rejected. Just do what you love, honestly fill out your application, and whatever happens will be for the best, with you having no regrets!

Thanks for the replies!
