Hi guys,
My family is moving states in the middle of the school year. I’m currently a sophomore attending a very good private school, but I’m worried the abrupt change will impact me a lot mentally and academically, which is why I’m considering repeating freshman year at the new public school I will attend (to make the shift smoother). There are a lot of prerequisite classes as well required for freshman that I’d have to take as a sophomore. As a result, I can’t fit that many AP classes in either.
I’ve excelled and passed all of my classes in freshman year (basically all A+’s), so is it a red flag for college admissions officers if I repeat freshman year at a public school from a private school? Can they even tell?
Thanks,
You would have to submit transcripts from both high schools. It makes absolutely no sense to repeat a year in which you earned all As. It is normal to be anxious and concerned about the adjustment, but taking a drastic measure such as repeating a perfectly good year will make college wonder how you’ll manage the even bigger adjustment to their campus.
@Groundwork2022 why would I have to submit transcripts from both schools if colleges only require a 4 year transcript?
They ask you to submit transcripts from all schools attended - so if you left it off, you would be submitting a fraudulent application. You could always explain your reasoning for why you repeated a grade -but I am not seeing why you would repeat a grade under the circumstances outlined in your email.
