Importance of Calculus

Hello everyone,

For senior year, I am taking Precalculus and I was wondering if that would affect my chances of admission since many of my classmates will be taking Calculus. The middle school I went to did not offer Algebra I and therefore I had to start with Algebra I my freshman year of high school. I know in college that I'll be taking Calculus anyway but I'm not sure how admissions officers would view it...

It probably won’t affect your admission chances that much, but it will definitely make your life a lot more difficult if you end up taking calculus in college…Almost everybody at universities like Berkeley took calculus in high school, and a large percentage even took two years of it. Basically, you will have to compete with people in your classes who already know calculus well enough to get 4’s and 5’s on Calc BC.
