<p>Hi,
I am an international student who will apply to UC Berkeley, Stanford, Penn, Cornell, CMU, GaTech this fall, the thing is that I live at such a place where the emphasis is given more to studies rather than the overall development. I live in a semi urban area in India. I do not have those decent EC's which a CS student should have.
My EC's are-
Computer & Technology club (4years as president)
Student Council President
Class representative
Anchor at School Farewell
I'll be interning as a Database Administrator in the Indian Army this summer
Made my own website and blog, I love blogging ,also made school's website with my computer science teacher
Varsity Basketball (vice-captain)
Swimming & Water polo(in free time)
Started my business to repair the computers and teach kids Computer Science and Mathematics.
I know a variety of languages such as JAVA, C++, Visual Basic, Python, SQL, HTML, PHP......learned them on my own.
Drama(8 years)
I'm an Army Education Society scholar.(3 times).
I made most of my opportunities and I'm afraid that I'll be rejected everywhere. I don't have any awards like google science fair, intel isef nothing..... What should I do now? will I be finished? :(</p>
<p>It seems you have a ton of EC so I don’t know what you are talking about. </p>
<p>Yes @BrownParent but not those famous ones like a Stanford or cmu caliber applicant</p>
<p>You have EC’s. Keep doing those.
However, are you going to be paying full freight or will you need financial aid?</p>
<p>Deleted</p>
<p>will only apply for some aid at Penn and Stanford @MYOS1634 and @JustASomeone what?</p>
<p>Sorry, I was typing on my phone and it wasn’t coming out right.</p>
<p>What I said was that your ECs are fine, they show a variety of interest and will likely not hurt you. But, you’re an international student. Admissions are extremely unpredictable for international students. </p>
<p>If you weren’t an international student, I would call ■■■■■ actually. Your ECs are practically the example people give as the answer to the question “What ECs should I do?” Don’t worry too much, the only thing that would improve your EC list would be something incredible, like discovering the next heartbleed or curing cancer. </p>
<p>Your ECs are fine for most of those schools. However since admissions are getting ridiculously competitive -especially for international students requesting financial aid- you’re odds at Stanford, UPenn, and Cornell especially are pretty slim. I would expect that you’ll get into GaTech and either CMU and Cal. </p>
<p>Thank you for your advices @saif235 and @JustASomeone :)</p>
<p>The average schools do not consider ECs. </p>
<p>but the schools I’ve mentioned in my post are definitely not average! @Classof2015HS</p>
