I am just curious, how much influence do essays have on an application? For example, would a decent SAT score be balanced out with really good essays? I know it sounds incompetent to compare test scores to essays because they are both completely different; I just cannot think of a good example.

It’s funny…back when I was in HS, my GC explained things that way, but it’s not how it works. Things are not “weighted” in our review, so there’s no formula where a certain score in one area would compensate for a lower score in another. There are no grids, charts, or rubrics here. We take our notes by prose. While there are definitely times when some component of the application stands out, we don’t think about a component “making up for” another component.

Does that make sense?

Yes, it does makes sense. It is interesting to know how a college reviews the essays their applicants write. Thank you for the quick reply.
