Importance of high school ranking?

I'm talking about your actual school, not class rank. In any case, how much does it factor into an application if you attend one of the top public/private high schools in the nation?

For example, the schools I'm referring to are similar to Thomas Jefferson HS in VA or School for Talented and Gifted in TX (public) or say Andover or Exeter for private. Not only these, but if you attend a school ranked at least in the top 50 in the nation?

If it is considered a feeder school to top colleges then it makes a difference. Check your Naviance and ask your GC.

If you go to a good high school does it help or hurt your chances? Is it good to go to a high school that is weak but your stats stand out or where your stats are average but everyone is good.

bump? any thoughts at all are appreciated!

okay so i go to very selective private school, there are around 25 students in the entire 11th grade, and well, its hard. Def. colleges would love to see if you’re in public school and you’re in the top 5%, but if you’re in a private school, they understand that typically the material presented there is much harder and that the honor classes that are given are college material. In my high school people have went to Princeton, Columbia, Yale, etc. Overall my counselor says that we have an advantage because we are more “advanced” and colleges want that, yet we also have a disadvantage cuz all of my classmates are high honor roll. So if you’re going to be in a private school, STAND OUT. DO A LOT OF EXTRA AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES, AND HAVE HIGH SAT/ACT SCORES, SHOW UR TALENT. But to be honest, they look at that to get more of an understanding about you. If you’re in a private school for example, they would understand why you would apply to a private college, they know that you’re in a very protective environment, etc.
Hope this helped!
