Importance of Legacies At Medical Schools

Hey Guys...I was wondering if any of you knew the importance of being a legacy when applying to medical school. I want to apply to Thomas Jefferson Medical School, and both my uncle and my grandfather went there. My grandfather is a frequent donor there and even has a wing of the hospital named after him (very important to the school). I'm only a senior in high school, but I just want to look at my options in advance, to see what undergraduate school is good for me, etc.

So, if you guys could just fill me in if I have an extra-advantage from the start because of my family, that would be great. Thanks!

I have a feeling the "wing" is certainly going to help..a lot. Legacies at Med Schools play a more important role than colleges. If you are an average candidate, you are "in" for sure.

You might have been a very interesting candidate to Jefferson Med if you applied through the Penn State/Jefferson Med Program from HS.

Its always good to be related to an alumnus with his name on a building. Still have to be a top candidate though.
