Importance of School Academic Awards

Hello everyone! So as I’ve been going through CC I’ve found that there are a lot of people who, under their stats, post tons of academic awards that they’ve won from their school.

Personally, I have won academic awards and honors primarily in a non-school setting, at the state and national levels. However, aside from academic excellence recognition (with a high GPA), I have received nothing else specifically from my school, even in subjects where I dominate (math and the social sciences). This issue goes for a lot of other high-achieving students in my grade. The students at my school who win school-given academic awards are nearly all non-Honors and non-AP students who most likely do not participate in math team, model un, scioly, robotics, econ/history/geo club, mock trial, honor societies, FBLA, compsci team, etc.

I guess my concern is that at other schools, this is not necessarily the case, and while similar awards are offered, students of matching academic caliber at my school such as myself do not have the opportunity to showcase these awards, while students at other schools can, and this could put us at a disadvantage.

Maybe I’m just being a little paranoid or worrying too much, and it doesn’t really make a difference. However, it would be good to get some feedback just so that I have a better idea of whether this issue is really an issue and if it matters.
