Importance of senior grades (slightly downward trend...)

ALL UNWEIGHTED (I consistently had very rigorous courseloads throughout high school)

Freshman Year GPA: 4.0
Sophomore Year GPA: 4.05
Junior Year: 3.763

^^If you average all of that together, I had a 3.94 going into senior year.

Unfortunately I'm really tanking now....

AP Lit: A-
AP Stat: B+
AP Spanish: B- (This is the "worst-case" scenario grade. I just received a C+ on my midterm...)
AP Java: A
Gym: A
Honors economics (Half-year course): Projected A (its really easy as long as you do your work)
AP Calc BC: B- (This is the "worst-case" scenario grade. I just received a D on my midterm due to circumstances that I can't quite spell out on CC...)

As you can see I'm in all AP classes and I've caught a really bad case of senioritis...

Colleges will definitely not see my midterm grades (my guidance department said its recalculated into my overall 4-year GPA, but its not shown with my marking period grades).

I applied to Tepper with a 2190 SAT, 800 in Math2 and 740 in US History.

I've showed interest in the school (alumni interview that went for 1 1/2 hrs...) and its honestly my #1 realistic choice.

Any idea on how my senior grades will reflect?

Chirst. Your worst grade is a B. Relax.

I think you have legitimate reason to be worried. Tepper wants kids with excellent math grades, so those B’s in Stat and BC Calc will hurt you. If you got A’s in all your other math classes however, those two grades won’t hurt you that much.

^As someone who is literally still just a senior in high school and therefore has NO basis for his opinion, you really shouldn’t be participating in these chance threads because you are literally propagating misinformation.

Not only was I a Tepper student, but I have a few friends working in adcom. If OP’s overall GPA is as high as he makes it out to be, a few B’s senior year is not going to matter.

EDIT: And this is mostly just a response to the first 75% of the answer.

Misinformation? During my info session, the admission counselor specifically stated they focus on math grades when looking at students for Tepper. My interviewer (another admissions officer) said the exact same thing, as I was planning to apply to Tepper at the time. Both of them also told me that senior grades are pretty important (for RD) because they’re the most recent record available.

Conclusion: Senior math grades matter and I have evidence (not opinion) to prove it.

I probably exaggerated the impact of those B’s, but the content of my post is still valid. I said those B’s could hurt; not that they would get the OP rejected. Also, the OP never posted the scale of those GPA’s so you can’t assume that a 3.94 is high. If he/she had a 3.94/4.0, I would have agreed with you. Since the OP’s GPA is on a 4.05+ scale, its possible that he/she might have B’s in other math classes, leaving us with two possible cases: B’s in other math classes, no B’s (or almost no B’s) in math. I provided chances for both cases because I couldn’t rule either out.

Anyway, I don’t want to turn this thread into a CC fight. If you think I’m seriously wrong, send me a PM instead of posting here.

Lol thanks for the help guys… I really appreciate your different perspectives.

Just to fill you in

Honors Geometry: A+
Honors Alg 2/Trig: A
Honors Pre-Calc: A

And the reason I have a 4.05 Sophomore year is because at my school an A+ (unweighted) is actually a 4.33.

Again I really appreciate your different opinions on this matter and hope this wont too seriously impact their decision

Based on that last post, I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Those 2 B’s are clearly exceptions to your otherwise excellent academic record. I wouldn’t worry too much about them now.

In any case, good luck during the RD round! I really hope you get in.
