Important Changes re: Laptop Support

The Technology Support Center appears to have made a few major changes to the support tiers for MyNotebook and for other Dell/IBM/Lenovo computers.

-Data recovery services are no longer provided. So if your hard drive needs to be wiped due to viruses or replaced due to failure, your files will not be backed up. You will be responsible for proactively backing up your own files. This is a change from previous years, and not one to overlook until it's too late.

-Viruses and spyware are no longer cleaned. Instead, your hard drive is wiped and restored to its initial configuration. Pursuant to the above, you'll still be on your own for making sure your files are safe.

o.O good thing i bought that external hard drive!

Heh, I always had them wipe my hard drive anyways. I sorta used IT as my Windows install disc when I wanted to reformat. It’s really a shame they don’t give the actual Windows media when you buy a laptop through them.

This year the MyNotebook comes with a reinstall DVD. It’s the William & Mary configuration, not a clean Windows disc, but at least you’ll be able to do it yourself if you want to.
