I took a writing test today and got 2 grammar questions wrong, looked back and new exactly why I got them wrong but the improving sentences, I just don’t seem to understand them I got 5 out of the 6 wrong, and I wasn’t even rushing had like 8 minutes. Usually I don’t do that bad, mostly around 1-2 wrong on this section but still this section always kills my writing score. Do you guy’s have any tips or strategies for this section?
This means that you lack a fundamental understanding of basic grammer. I would recommend you go over the basic grammer rules first and then apply them to improving sentences. Check out reason preps youtube channel and start from there i guess. It gives a good summary of the basics of grammer. Look out for comma splices, awkward wordings,misplaced modifiers, and comparisons.These are the most commonly tested rules on the improving sentences section of the SAT. Good luck!
Was it a practice test? If so, could you post one or more of the questions you got wrong and explain your thought process? Maybe someone can help you find a new way of thinking about that type of question.
@SATunodostres It is spelled “grammar.”
@Yugimoto The correct answer is usually the choice that is grammatically correct, and fits best within the context of the rest of the passage. The rest of the writing questions mainly only test grammatical rules. So when answering these questions, you also want to look at which choice fits with the rest of the passage.
LOL sorry
