Has anyone had experience with CogMed or any other programs designed to improve working memory?

dual n back has been proven (through PNAS) to improve working memory

piracetam might also help.

I think a lot of these programs can and do work, only as long as you keep using them.

My daughter did a couple listening therapy programs when she was little, while I was still trying to avoid medications for her, and they helped while she did them at OT but when she stopped doing them, any improvements were lost.

Thanks to mnmom62 and InquisitiveOne for responding. I am still trying to get more information about CogMed. I would think that there would be a lot of other people out there exploring this option since working memory might be the “core deficit” in ADHD (at least according to the CogMed company). [ADHD and beyond](http://www.thecogmedstory.com/ADHD_and_beyond.html) Any more input from CC community would be greatly appreciated.

[Working memory deficits](http://www.thecogmedstory.com/Working_memory_deficits.html) - this is the link I meant to post, regarding how working memory is the core ADHD deficit.

What do you want to know about Cogmed? We use it in my office. Unlike the listening programs, play attention, piracetam…Cogmed has a very good research evidence base and is successful in 80+ of everyone who uses it the right way. The secrets are: understanding why you are doing the program so you feel committed, having a good coach who supervises, having a good training aide who sits with you and keeps you on track if needed, carving out enough time to do the program. Don’t add it to an already busy schedule…it is too much work. go to WWW.cogmed.com to learn more…

I would like to know whether anyone has had any personal experience with CogMed, and whether or not they would recommend it. robyrm2, how long has your office been using it? Has it been used there for people with ADHD? I know the program is expensive and requires a serious commitment. I am trying to decide whether it would be worth a try.

I believe Cogmed is based on Torkel Klingberg’s work, and he’s done alot of research with dual n-back. I bought a dual n-back cd last year ($60?), but later found a place to download something similar for free. It’s really difficult, but you have to use it for 30-45 min/day, 5-6 days/wk for 5 wks. I lasted a few days. Cogmed uses some of the same methods, but the program looks much more engaging. Guess it should be for over 20x the price.

Google Torkel and his research in working memory. They use the “80% of patients show improvement” statistic also about Cogmed. Haven’t heard of anyone using it.
