And now, we wait. I don’t know if I can stand waiting for months to hear what has been decided.
@lsutiger25 The good thing is, you can still submit your application before your teachers submit their reports. I recommend doing it to avoid the rush on the last day.
Can anyone give me a few examples of what a math/science award would be? I might apply as a freshman. I have art and writing awards but none for math or science…
Some examples of math/science awards could be getting 1st place for state at science fair, getting a 25/25 on AMC8 or AMC10, or any outstanding achievements that might separate you from the rest of the applicant pool.
@allyxyz Basically, if you can somehow tie an award you earned to math and science, it can be considered a math and science award. Yes, @jonahilu is right, those are some strong examples of awards. However, if you haven’t earned these, try thinking of all of the awards you earned in the past. For example, I had participated in a cardboard boat building/racing competition that I put under STEM awards because I had to use engineering and math concepts to build the boat. It also doesn’t need to be a physical award; for example, I put getting 2nd place in a model bridge building competition (that I used mathematics and engineering concepts in) that our class had in my Geometry class last year as one of my awards. Think of all of the competitions that you did well in. Can you connect them to math and science in some way? Remember, giving the admissions team as much information as possible, even if its small, that supports the fact that you are passionate about math and science is incredibly important in this application. Assuming that you are looking to apply next year (you said you “might” apply, which gives me the impression that you aren’t applying this year because I don’t think you would be indecisive about applying 2 days before the deadline), try to join as many STEM-related competitions, clubs, and activities as possible to increase your chances of receiving a high-quality STEM award.
Correct, I’m in 7th grade. My school’s science program is pretty bad so I don’t have many accomplishments from that. There are no science or math clubs at my school either. I’ll probably take a few science programs this summer to make up for it. Thanks!
Hey guys, I literally just submitted my application to IMSA! Just wanted to hop by and say good luck to you all and hope you get in!
@captain1929 Thanks, you too.
I submitted my application today as well! I have everything completed on my checklist besides the application fee, which I just paid today. Now comes the hard part: the wait til results come out.
Good luck to everyone applying!
Hey guys!!! Best of luck to y’all and I can’t wait to see you all at IMSA (If I get in). \m/
Good luck everybodyy!!! Lets hope everyone gets accepted
Just submitted my application! Let’s just hope we don’t die of anxiety before the decisions are sent out! :-SS
Has anyone ever been to the Northwestern CTD summer program? I was thinking of applying, but it’s so expensive and I don’t know if it will be helpful.
The Northwestern NSLC program???
What’s the average SAT score applicants should get? 1200? 1300? 1400?
@allyxyz My friend and I have both attended CTD programs, but they were doing the school year. The original reason that I enrolled in it was for high school credit, but both IMSA and my home school said that the credits didn’t count for them. My family then decided that the distance and cost was too great to continue the course, so I only took two trimesters. The course and teacher were excellent, so if you really like a course I would say go for it if you think the cost is worth it.
@spoonfulofpi I’m not sure exactly, but from preview day/other presentations I heard the average freshman scores were something like 680 math 620 reading, for a total of 1300. The average 8th grade scores were something like 780 math 740 reading, for a total of 1520. However, since this is the first year applicants are taking the New SAT, these scores are converted from the old SAT and might not be accurate. In any case, try to focus on the math section because I’m pretty sure they weigh it higher over reading.
good luck class of 2020! you guys are gonna hate this school lmao
@jonahliu I didn’t know you were on this thread
Who told you about it? @lsutiger25?
