Looks like I’m checking my mailbox everyday from now on. :-SS
I’m not even applying to IMSA but I just wanted to comment because this is literally how everybody was on the prep school threads in March… It was so intense :)) . Good luck to all of you guys! Btw, I know nothing about IMSA. Is it a private or a public school? And what’s the acceptance rate? And also, @javascript I think that you have a great shot. Whenever I don’t have anything to write about on the prep school threads I read this one and you have an impressive application! Although you probs shouldn’t believe me because I know absolutely nothing about IMSA admissions…
@Nico.campbell Thanks, I hope I have a great shot :-B … And of course I would not believe you because you know nothing about IMSA :))
By the way, IMSA is a public residential high school for 10-12 grade. It is specialized in math and science with a competitive admission. Usually 600-700 applicants from all around Illinois competing for 230-250 spots.
What is the reason for the increase in the amount of accepted applicants? Was it because of an increase in quality or abundance in the applicant pool? Or a little bit of both?
@maxo I assume it is because over 15 people dropped the school, so an additional sport became available for incoming students. It is nothing to do with the quality of applicants. They can not accept more people than the beds available.
I mean additional spots, not sport. I was not completely awaken so early in the morning I-)
Omg new email! It says the letters will be sent out May 1st. @imsachick is this more reliable or do you still think they were already sent out? Also it talks about if accepted to discuss moving away. Is there anybody on here who might not go to IMSA if they got accepted? I would for sure go but I know somebody who tells me they’re not so sure.
I got the email, too. Naturally, we’d prefer to receive the letter ASAP, but if they’re being mailed Monday, then some of us will get them Tuesday. So that’s not too long to wait!
I literally just went and checked my mailbox after reading this! :))
@balloony At this point my home school doesn’t suck and if I don’t get into IMSA, I won’t die because my school does offer some nice STEM classes and some really challenging and interesting science electives. If I do get in, it isn’t an automatic yes for me, I will have to really think about it, but I think I will probably end up going if I’m invited.
@javascript That’s really cool that you got job offers, I’m applying to work at the local library over the summer XD ProTip: My best friend was going to a Shakespeare program last summer, and her tuition was a few thousand dollars, and her family couldn’t help her pay, so I helped her fundraise. The most successful thing was going to a local pee-wee baseball and soccer field and selling cookies and stuff. When she told them what she was raising money for, a lot of people just donated some money. Two people just gave her a hundred dollar bill (and keep in mind I live in a relatively low-income area). If you’re up for it, I’m sure that if you ask people to help you go to a research program, that they will be happy to help you out. If you end up going and need other ideas for funds, check out https://www.nslcleaders.org/high-school-summer-programs/scholarships-for-high-school-students/#section-4
Guys, what do you think I will do if IMSA will invite me? … XX \m/ :-bd :D/ <:-P \m/ :-bd \m/ XX ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^ <:-P <:-P <:-P ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^ :-bd :-bd :-bd … something like this… 8-> So, you can guess if I will accept the offer :-??
Heyyyy 5 or 6 days left until the letter
and javascript, my guess is yes you will go.
@rma2002 wao. you got it right … anyways, why rma2002? what happened in 2002??? anything bad ??? :-w Well, I was born somewhere around…
Exactly that, haha
My birthyear.
I’m assuming most people on this thread were born then, maybe some in 2001. I myself will probably end up going as well (if I make it, lets see).
Guys I can’t wait to meet all of you! Acceptance letters come out in like a week! I’ll be a junior next year, hit up my quad on snapchat: @panicatthefob (me), @deniwa, @alexa5654, and @potatolo !
if you wanna dm me on instagram with questions about imsa life or anything follow me @es.stultus
Hm. I suppose it’s possible that they’ll wait until Monday to mail them out but every year they release them early. They’re pretty trustworthy but they might be trying to trick y’all.
As for the larger incoming class, there are two reasons. 1) The senior class (my class) is graduating 213, the biggest in the last 5 or 10 years. 2) A lot of sophomores and some juniors dropped yet and more will drop over the summer (probably 50-60 total) so that’s room for 260-270ish new sophs. Like someone mentioned, we can’t accept more or fewer based on the application pool. If all the applicants were to suck, we’d accept the best 260-270 (or however many) applicants because we want to give this awesome opportunity to as many students as we can, even if they’re not quite as prepared as other classes have been.
Hey guys, IMSA '16 alum here, if you all have questions about IMSA life etc. feel free to dm me at steffie_8A on insta.
Just a tip for incoming sophomores, people at imsa use Facebook for pretty much everything, so get an account if you don’t already have one!
Also I’m @ochotona1liensis on instagram if you want to follow, just be warned that I don’t really post anything school-related
EDIT: I will be a new member of SCS (student computing support) next year so hit me up if you want to know someone you can go to for computer issues during the school year.
Good luck to everyone that is applying! I’m a current IMSA sophomore, and I got my letter today last year. Get ready, because you will find out soon! Also, you will absolutely need a Facebook account at IMSA, so make sure you have one.
If mails will be sent Monday before 5 p.m. I will not receive mine till Wednesday at least… :((
