in my case, would it be stupid to double major?

I'm a rising junior, so I clearly don't really know what I want to do in life yet. However, if I end up going to Cornell, I'm almost positive that I would study something in Chemistry, maybe Biochemistry, or something along those lines. However I'm also very interested in foreign languages like Italian, and even Classics. Would it be smart to double major in chemistry and foreign language/classics? I think I would want to be a high school teacher or college professor, so would it be wise to minor in education?

it depends on what you want to teach… I’m an entering freshman at Cornell so I don’t really know much about the courseload, but that doesn’t seem tooooo impossible.

you should definitely start out taking some courses in both areas, and then you can decide later. you’d be in Arts and Sciences and there is no rush to declare a major. even if you decided that double majoring was too much, you’d be well on your way to a minor if you started with the Italian/Classics during freshman year.

you’d also want to make sure your adviser knew of these goals early on, so that all grad requirements are also taken care of. I think this is well within the possibilities of study at Cornell, but it will probably be good that you’re thinking about it now.

okay thanks!
