Ok, so I just received my SAT scores today and they are way below what I expected to get. It's kind of depressing to be honest. I never was a good test taker, but I thought I did good on this one.

I signed up already for the Nov 8 test and now I'm on the wait list. Still, even if I get seated I'll have to pay around $150 (International) to take the test. That's a lot of money, considering I still have to pay for TOEFL, SAT II, and finally for sending the scores. I feel a lot of pressure because for my family this is a lot of money and having bad scores feels like I'm disappointing them.

I realize that retaking the test doesn't guarantee a magical score increase, but still, I will try my best in case I get seated.

I suspect that there are other students out here with low scores and maybe a consolation board would help us feel better.

Anything uplifting is welcome.

How much did you get? I thought I had done well on the Essay but received just 7. My Critical Reading was bad as I had expected due to that uninteresting “Fishing” Passage. My Math was too a bit below my expectations.

@SATLeaker, I got a 7 on the essay as well. CR is in the 600’s. That “Fishing” passage definitely ruined it for me as well. I took some practice tests with Kaplan, which is considered by many to be harder than the actual test and never came across such a convoluted text as that one. Math, I don’t even want to talk about it. It’s extremely low. I expected it would be my lowest score, but not that low. It’s probably because I didn’t leave any questions empty.

@SameerHussain, don’t want to disclose. It’s low though, especially for the colleges I’m applying to.

I’m retaking the test too. I was really nervous the day of the test, even though I had no reason to be. I did decently, but I know I can do better, and that’s why I’m taking it again. They say all the tests are around the same level, but let’s be honest, some tests are just harder than others, and I found this test to be somewhat more difficult than the ones I’ve taken in the past.

Is taking the ACT an option? Some people do much better on that one. My son was a good example. He took the SAT as a baseline, then went through an intensive SAT class followed by another SAT test. He ended up scoring exactly the same. Later, he took the ACT with no preparation and scored the equivelent of 100 point higher.

@chud182, unfortunately my country doesn’t offer ACT.

I cannot offer consolation, but rather a question…if the scores are low for the colleges you plan to apply to, perhaps you should be applying to different colleges?

@SevenDad, it’s a long story and probably too long to write in here, but to put it shortly, I think I might have other things than my test scores to offer to those schools.
I am applying to safety schools too, so don’t think I’m a self-conceited brat who thinks will get into a big school just because she is just so “special” and “unique”.
