In need of help/advice from you college savvy people

You guys know a lot more about how to's, where to's etc than I do.

What I came to ask is, what colleges have minors/majors/certs in coaching? I am looking to make sure they also have a top basketball team. (since that is what I want to coach)

So far I am looking at UNLV, since they have a minor in Athletic Coaching and a good team + school of education.

BUT, I would like to know of any other options, I just can't seem to find anything.

Thank you!

I think you have to look for majors listed as sports management or Parks, Recreation and Leisure Studies. Of course, these won’t all have majors specifically in coaching. If you are talking about teacher certification, you can look up which schools are certified by their state education agencies. Unfortunately, I don’t think there is one place to easily look up everything you’re interested in. If having a top basketball team is important, that may be the place to start at and then look at the other programs.

If you really want to get into coaching the thing to do is to become a manager at whatever college you attend. Being a manager at a DIII school is going to be more benificial than attending a DI school with a great BB program that you are not involved with. Education & excercise physiology are good major matches for coaching.

So they do have sports management? I will look around, I don’t know the name of many majors. Thanks.

I thought about exercise physiology, but that is a lot of what I have no interest in. (all the science) I already know how to tape people up, splints etc. CPR/First aid cert since I was 18 etc.

Right now I am doing physical education and once I hit my 45 credits I will take the California test to become a teacher assistant within a school district. This is at a CC though.

As of right now I am an assistant varsity coach. (started as frosh assistant first year, then head frosh 2nd year now assistant varsity 3rd year)

I am also going to get on the coaching staff as a student assistant/manager at a local CC.

I will have letters of recommendation from a local 4 year coach, whom is a family friend, the CC coach, the CC AD, 2 high school ADs, 2 HS varsity coaches and the superintendent of the area.

Does anyone else have anything else? What schools I may want to look at etc?
