:( in need of moral support and advice

(I am currently using a friend’s account ( this ) to submit my post as I was havig trouble making my own )

Hi, I am currently a sophomore in a competitive public Highschool. I am very stressed out in terms of academic and I really lost. My grades are inferior to those in my class year.

Ethnicity : Asian/Pacific Islander :frowning: makes it harder?

I am a californian resident

I am quite ashamed of my GPA as I know it’s a really big factor. It sorta put me into a really bad position in terms of class rank as my school only calculates UW GPA and is a school full of competitive asians :(. I feel behind since all my peers are doing interviews, etc. with all these other crazy ECs, 2400 SATs, Track stars, math gods, 4.3 - 4.8 GPAs, I can go on for very long, and here I am with a 3.0 - 3.6ish GPA :frowning:
Do you guys have any suggestions of what I can do to show more “impressiveness”? I’m planning to take some SAT2s and more APs to in increase my upward trend as of GPA. You’ve sort of already can see some of it in the stats. Also college courses ( district only limits one to highschoolers ) do you guys know how to surpass this so I can take more?

As of ECs, anything I can do for CS majors?

But yeah, to sum up, I just want advice of what I can do?

Dream
Schools : UCLA, UCB, UCI, UCD, UCSD, Caltech, Cornell, Stanford

I know it’s laughable right now, but I feel I still can change that?

You are only in your sophomore year you know  If there was a reason for your grades at that point explain it, I was in the same situation, took up volunteering, and learned that there is more to life than just moping and playing video games. It immediately helped me get on track, and is great material for essays. Maybe you won’t get to stanford, and that’s ok, but know that there is still room for improvement for you, and there are other schools that you will be happy in as well. Hope this cheered you up at least a bit!

Yeah! But how can I improve it? Annnd how can I exactly explain my grades?

And I sort of figured it’s only
my sophomore year, but what has happened is going to make a big impact in my application :frowning:

You can’t control the past, you can only control the future. I am a senior and in February of 2014, I took my ACT. I got a 29 :frowning: i was looking to apply to schools like Cornell, JHU and what not so my score is not enough(especially since I am Canadian). Furthermore, my grade 11 second semester was rough as I tried to do too much, I took grade 12 Bio and Grade 12 Comp. Sci. and didnt do as well as I hoped: 83 and 88, which aren’t bad marks, A- and A respectively, but still I wanted a 90. So on my summer off, I decided to snap, watch a couple of EricThomas the hip hop preacher videos and I never looked back. Spent like 4 hours a day studying for ACT and SAT physics during the summer. I took the ACT and got a 33, and my science score went up from 25-36. Just when I thought I could be happy, the SAT physics came back to haunt me during the school year. So i didnt eat lunch and would finish my hw as fast as I could and eventually got a 710, a score that I am happy with. Throughout this, I was discouraged by ppl on CC as on a chance thread many ppl just threw me aside, however, I did not care what these ppl thought of me as I felt that I was smarter than a large majority of them( I feel like I am in the 99%ile of CC- bold statement). I pushed through and eventually did it, you need to find the fire in yourself to do it as well, whether its waking up earlier, or not sleeping, you have to do what you need to do. Yes I understand that I may not ever get accepted by a top school, but I reached a point of no return and thus needed to pull together a “legendary” semester where I am now getting the highest marks in my class. You can msg me anytime if you ever feel down, but just work hard, listen to music(I’d recommend Ab-Soul) and push through!

@manas1997‌ thank you so much dude! Have you gotten accepted to any colleges yet? :0

lol not yet, who knows maybe never, but again just push through!

As of the company and stuff i mentioned above, do you think that’ll help me?
