“In the Nation's Service; In the Service of All Nations.”

what does this motto mean?

princeton's motto used to be 1/2 that quote... "Princeton, in the service of the nation" However, lately, they've expanded that quote, I guess according to the app, it's not official yet (although I'm quite sure it's supposed to be). Basically, since the recent international affairs and the whole "the world is becoming a smaller place" thing has given Pton the view that it should be stretchign overseas. therefore, the 2nd part of the quote was added recently. Now, pton is an academic institution for the world, not mainly just focusing on the domestic (although they've really been that way for a pretty long time)

That whole motto is unofficial. The real one is in Latin. Alumother, where are you? ;)

Dei sub numine viget - "Under God's light she flourishes".

We always translated it to mean "God went to Princeton."

;)

But when we were serious or an older relative asked we said it meant, "Live in the light of God." Sounds like coureur's translation is richer.

I think it is some kind of cleaning service for free
