yeah.. just wondering.

so we have:
-transcripts
-test scores
-essays
-recs
-dean's letter
-secondary school reports
-the application (legacy, race etc)
-supplementary materials (if any)

mm?

I highly doubt anyone's going to answer this 100% surely unless they've worked as adcom before... but just my guess:

Application (obviously to get the quick overview of the candidate)

Transcripts (The quickiest way to brief the candidate's GPA and pre-req completion for primary judgment)

Secondary School Reports

Test Scores

Essay

supplementary materials

dean's letter/recs

I would change that around a bit....most schools (esp. ivy league) say they give great weight to one's essays and recommendaitons....sooooo i would say...

sophomore transfer:
transcripts
application
test scores
essays
recs.
secondary schoool report
dean's letter
supplemental materials

junior transfer:
transcripts
application
essays
recs.
test scores
secondary school reports
dean's letter
supplemental materials

then again, im 100% there is no correct answer to this question, lostincode. each school will give certain items (beyond the transcript that is) a great deal of weight in its decision.

i work with admissions at an ivy (though i don't review the apps.) and i have no idea what the answer to this question is

You can read The Gatekeepers, blogs by Admissions Daniel (JHU board), Ben Jones (MIT board) and others to get an inside view of how they each do it.

that's a great book about Wesleyan admissions. however, im skeptical as to whether or not the book is relevant when it comes to transfer admissions.
it's more aimed at the high school senior.

well I've always thought adcoms may want to look at the numbers first (HS & College GPA, SAT, ACT, etc.) before looking at the essays and recs, regardless of which is more important.

It varies by school.

UCs:
1) GPA
2) completion of prereqs (sometimes in the same breadth as 1 if the major is impacted
3) other things like essays and EC's, overcoming adversity, etc
no high school transcripts, SATs

UChicago:
an adcom posted somewhere on the Chicago forum, but I don't remember the exact thread. It went something like
1) How hard were the courses you chose to take, and how did you do in the hardest of courses.
2) essays
3) other things
and SATs and overall GPA are the least two important factors.
