What are some of the more academically renowned east coast academic institutions that adhere to a somewhat elitist, partying, preppy reputation? I know it is a stereotype, but I'm curious as to what you guys think...

I think it’s more so true in the south.

East Coast extending to South… Virginia, North Carolina… or do you mean in the deep south heading West? Also, name some.

^Top Southern schools are rather diverse… maybe even surprisingly diverse. This is especially true for Duke and Emory which have been ranked 1 and 2 in terms of diversity on campus. That ranking included not just racial diversity among students, but also in faculty etc. The notable exception from my observation is perhaps Vanderbilt.

Anyways, I do agree that preppy and partying reputation will generally be found in Southern schools… maybe UNC Chapel Hill? I cannot speak for its diversity though.

I took diversity out of the original OP because it doesn’t really relate to exactly what I was asking. I was just wondering what CCers consider schools with stereotypically wealthy, preppy, party, elitist, academically renowned reputations are (even if it is only a fraction of the school) … more specifically in the Northeast… extending to VA/NC I suppose

My school more or less fits the bill. Majority of people here are upper middle class Caucasians.

The other major Catholic universities - Georgetown and Notre Dame fit into this category as well. In fact, most major Catholic schools are usually home to a fair number of preps.
