Well I'm going to start my first year of college in a couple months and i have absolutely no idea what to major in. Everyone else i talk to seems to know more or less what theyre after.

At first, the idea of Advertising had appealed to me but the whole business and sales category doesnt really seem to fit me. Then i wanted to be a writer or journalist but i need a general major in which i can have options because i dont really want to be writing my whole life.

I would like a job in where it requires you to think profoundly, a somewhat artistic or creative job or just something that clicks with me which i obviously have not found yet.

Any suggestions or tips are very appreciated.

I would take a look at some of the books that are on the market about choosing careers. I know there is one that talks about personalities and majors.

About journalism–one of the nice things about journalism is that you can specialize as a science writer, an education writer, a business writer: you get the idea. So you could double major and really specialize. You would have the general background as well.

Many of your peers who act as though they think they know what they want to do will change their minds. Don’t get discouraged because you have lots of friends who want to be engineers and doctors and seem to know what they will do with their lives. Physics, chemistry, and biology will help many of them to change their minds in the fall. It is not unusual to not know exactly what you want to do, but society makes it seem that way. You will explore lots of different subjects through your general requirements.

Just search for a list of majors on Google and research all of them, narrowing down the list to ones that interest you. Or better yet, get the list of majors from your college so you know what your options are and research them, narrowing it down. It will eventually get to where you can pick one. Most freshman go in without a major.

How can you get people to be interested? (To buy a product, to listen to your report, to understand your claim). You gotta be creative. You gotta write, speak, and present. And you have to do it elaborately.
